To those who’s never been to Horokanai. This small town is surrounded by mountains. You can reach it around 50 minutes from Asahikawa or Shibetsu. Then you will go to Michi-no-eki(roadside station) and you will find Seiwa Hotspring attached to this Restaurant! We came here for lunch for several times and the menu was never disappointing. Price is just average typical Japanese dining ranging from ¥700~¥1650. The portion is big enough for one hungry customer who eats a lot like me LOL. I love the ambience of the restaurant and we have to follow covid protocol for wearing mask (except when eating), check temperature and eating in silent. Since it is on the same bulding as onsen, you might as well warm your body first then eat lunch in the restaurant afterwards. During certain hour, we can see how the Soba noodle are made through glass.
View on GoogleI go to Horokanai from time to time and eat soba. I've been to all the soba shops in town. Unless you're a soba connoisseur with a sensitive palate, probably none of them differ much. Or rather, not many feel special? That's my personal impression. Is it worth waiting a long time to eat?? Large mori soba is 1200 yen. The value is up to the individual. If you're going to wait, Soba Dining is also inside Luont, so I think it's easy to wait.
View on GoogleI like the Shiretoko salted pork soba here. I ordered the same thing both when I came with my husband last year and when I stopped by alone the other day. The warm broth has pork, bamboo shoots, wood ear mushrooms and so on in it, and you dip cold soba in it to eat. This broth is delicious too...! Being able to change the flavor with chili oil is also a big plus! The soba is of course delicious, but eating this superb soba this way makes me feel luxurious. At my age I worry about reducing salt, so I usually leave this kind of broth, but this time too I added the soba-yu and drank it all. It would be especially great if I could add extra noodles or rice... I haven't checked the menu, but they may not have it. There are weekday-only menu items too. When I stopped by alone the other day it was clam soba. It looked very delicious, but a splendid eggplant was plopped on top! I can't eat eggplant due to my constitution... If I had come with my husband I could have given him the eggplant or sometimes gotten a little of a substitute topping from him, but the eggplant's presence was big enough that it felt awkward to ask for it without eggplant, so I gave up this time. If you're okay with eggplant and shellfish, you'll definitely enjoy it. Those who can go on a weekday in July 2026, please do! Weekends used to be crowded, but weekdays in the off-season are empty and a good target!
View on GoogleA soba shop operating inside Seiwa Onsen Luont in Horokanai Town. The menu has lots of items besides soba, but Horokanai really does have plenty of soba shops. The number of shops in town isn't that large, so why does it feel like soba shops are so well represented in Horokanai?? This shop is open until 8 p.m., which is appreciated. Restaurants and food courts at michi-no-eki often don't serve dinner, but this one was open and going strong. I rarely visited Luont for a bath, and at that time I also dropped in at this shop. Here I ordered cold Shiretoko pork soba and sobameshi. The Shiretoko pork soba was very delicious, the juiciness of the pork matching the fragrance of the soba. It reminded me of the niku soba in Yamagata Prefecture that I tried on a trip to Tohoku, and I felt warm and nostalgic. The sobameshi was also very delicious, with the fragrance of soba matching the rice. And something not to be forgotten is the soba-yu. A creamy, slightly sweet item. I want you to drink it at least once. Basically only cold zaru-type soba comes with soba-yu in a pot (if you ask the staff, they can give it in a cup), so next time maybe I'll have zaru soba or mori soba??
View on Google☆Soba Dining Soba no Sato (Michi-no-eki Mori to Mizuumi no Sato Horokanai)☆ I've been in the onsen several times and of course visited the michi-no-eki downstairs many times too, but the restaurant inside the onsen has been really a long time... I honestly didn't remember it at all^^; I knew that tasty soba is famous in its homeland but this time, eating it again, I was moved that it's this delicious Truly the BEST for me! The soba itself, the broth, and the soba-yu are all rich and perfect! The way the tempura is fried and the variety also satisfied me greatly♪ The tentsuyu is tasty too~ There's only one shrimp but it's big so I have no complaints☆ The tempura alone fills you up^^ What I really wanted to eat this time was the dashimaki tamago with soba in it~ This too was fragrant, soft, and the dashi came through, rolled so that the goodness of the egg came out fully, and it was delicious Wow, for me this time was very satisfying♫ Finally I bought two kinds of soba manju from the pamphlet at the gift shop☆ These also had aroma and flavor, the manju (dango) was delicious~^^ I'd like to go again if I get the chance☆ Thank you for the meal! (_ _)
