The former Shinmei Line station building is being repaired and preserved by volunteers through conservation efforts. 2026 onward seems undecided yet, but every year, to coincide with the Horokanai Town New Soba Festival, new soba is served using this location. It was also possible to tour the inside of the building, which is normally not visible. They said information will be posted on Facebook, so why not check when the time gets closer. I admire this kind of activity. May it last for a long time ♪
View on Google・I stopped by during the soba festival. I was able to eat the soba of Sakamoto, a famous soba shop in Horokanai. The soba festival venue reportedly drew over 60,000 people across 3 days, and unless you come early in the morning you can't eat soba, so at lunchtime it might be better to eat here. ・Soba flowers were in bloom everywhere, and it was a very beautiful landscape.
View on GoogleIt's been 30 years since the Shinmei Line was abandoned, but it's beautifully preserved. It seems the inside is also opened to the public a few times a year (*^^*) A semaphore signal has been installed too, and recently tracks have also been laid at the station platform, so you can enjoy an atmosphere as if a train might come at any moment. Preserving it must be hard, but I'd be happy if it remained forever. I'd like to visit on an inside-open day too.
View on GoogleThe site of a station building on the former Japanese National Railways Shinmei Line. It's located a little way back from the national highway. The station building is in fairly good condition and has the charm of the past. It seems volunteers are preserving it enthusiastically, and I hope they keep it up.
View on GoogleWhile the sites of other Shinmei Line stations mostly have nothing left or just something like a monument, this one gives the impression from the road that it might still be in service, and things that evoke that era remain. Inside the station building are what seem to be timetables, benches, and a daruma stove that were used back then. There is only a little track, but the platform still keeps its shape firmly. Unlike the Horokanai Station site, in the roughly 20 minutes I was there, about 2 groups came to see it.
