It is a shame that it is preserved in such a cramped space, but it is precious that this tram has been carefully kept. Only 2 Asahikawa Electric Railway trams remain now, and I hope it will be cared for and stored indoors so it does not deteriorate.
View on GoogleFormer Higashikawa Town Hall Building Year built: Showa 24(1949) Designation, etc.: Tangible Cultural Property designated by Higashikawa Town The local history museum was in a quiet location surrounded by the town hall and parks. The large town parking lot beside it also makes it easy to visit. Dark-brown clapboard siding and white window frames With its gabled roof on the left and window frames suggesting 2 stories, it was a building well worth seeing. Unfortunately, at the time of my visit it was only open on Sundays, so I could not look inside. I would like to return someday.
View on GoogleIt uses the former town hall building, with an exterior full of retro charm. Who would have thought that even rural Higashikawa had trams? You can really soak up nature-rich Higashikawa, overshadowed by the big city of Asahikawa. It is a small town, but the local history museum's exhibits were extensive and wonderful.

Inside, there is also an old tram with a wooden floor, which really gave a sense of its age. The second floor displays many military items. There are stuffed deer, birds, and a horse. The stuffed horse in particular was so imposing that it looked alive. The 1st floor displays old farming tools. There are many exhibits, from hoes and saws to rice-threshing equipment. Considering that it is free, I think it is more than sufficient as a museum. There is also a roadside station nearby, so I suggest visiting after stopping there. The old tram was the most worthwhile exhibit for me. It was also nice to be able to operate the well pump freely. There is one receptionist, but they do not seem to be there all the time, apparently coming at opening and closing time; they are an ordinary part-time worker. They cannot answer any detailed questions at all. If this was helpful, please tap 👍. It encourages me(。-∀-)
View on GoogleI visited because a tram that once ran on the Asahikawa Electric Railway is preserved here. Since an entire car is preserved inside the cramped museum, I found measures such as using a large mirror to make it easier to see interesting.
