【“カムイミンタラ,” the garden where the gods play. Experience its beauty and harshness】 Known as the first place in Japan where autumn leaves begin changing color, 旭岳 has a divine beauty truly worthy of the name “the place where the gods play.” The 旭岳ロープウェイ is extremely convenient, allowing you to gain elevation in one go. The walking trails around 姿見の駅 are beautifully maintained, offering a soothing space with delicate alpine plants and, if you're lucky, encounters with adorable animals and birds. However, this is also wilderness with life-threatening harshness. Sudden weather changes can be fierce, and it's not unusual for visibility to disappear in an instant. This supreme sanctuary is a source of pride for Japan, and I hope you visit fully equipped and mentally prepared, with a sense of awe that “letting your guard down could cost you your life.” Warm clothing is essential even in summer to prepare for sudden drops in temperature. Also, even on the walking trails, I strongly recommend wearing sturdy footwear at least as substantial as sneakers (such as trekking shoes).

A few minutes from 姿見の池, this seems to be a spot with a good view toward 十勝岳 on clear days, but it was cloudy when I went, so I couldn't see it.

From here, you can take in 姿見池 and the volcanic fumaroles.
