My second visit. I ordered chashu miso ramen, and the soup, noodles, and chashu were all totally my kind of thing! I also like the restaurant's retro feel.

I had miso ramen and half a portion of fried rice. Overall, the portions are generous and fill you up. The flavor is pure old-school miso ramen, without being too heavy. I think it's good. I don't dislike the old-fashioned wakame either. For my personal taste, the garlic already comes through reasonably well, so having an aromatic oil such as scallion oil (with a chili kick) would probably make it even more to my liking (strictly my own preference). The fried rice had a lovely flavor too, tasty without being too strongly seasoned.

The restaurant is old, and the entrance in particular looks like a storage room, which made me briefly uneasy, but it turned out to be a genuinely tasty place. There are so many menu items that I ordered the well-regarded ramen and half fried rice set for 1300円, and was surprised to find the ramen bowl was about the size of a person's face! The half portion of fried rice looked ordinary but was quite filling. It had that classic, THE fried rice flavor! It's a little less salty than is common these days, but plenty delicious. Both the rice and egg textures were good! The ramen uses yellow, curly Sapporo ramen noodles, but has almost no oiliness, so at first I thought it lacked something. As time passed, though, the gentle sweetness and saltiness of the miso felt perfectly balanced, and it was very delicious. It felt like nostalgic, old-fashioned miso ramen. It had wakame and onions, plus an incredibly thick, large piece of chashu. People expecting Sapporo ramen whose richness comes from oil might say it isn't delicious, but I think this gentle flavor is exceptional as something different. The people at the restaurant were pleasant too.

I Googled what to eat after golf in Biratori and saved several Biratori restaurants to “Want to visit.” But perhaps because it was around 16:00 on a public holiday, they were either closed or preparing between lunch and dinner service, so all the Biratori options fell through. We switched to eating in Tomikawa, but still struggled to find somewhere open. Of the 2 ramen shops that came up, we chose this one. I ordered the miso ramen and half fried rice set for 1,200円 including tax. My friend ordered ankake soba for 1,000円. Here, it's not ankake yakisoba but “ankake soba.” The noodles aren't fried; they're boiled noodles with a thick sauce, hence ankake soba. My friend said it was delicious. The miso ramen had a strong garlic flavor. The mini fried rice was delicious too. But perhaps the prices are a little high. The ramen alone is 800円. Is Tomikawa expensive? The ramen shop diagonally opposite seems to charge 900円. This restaurant apparently also makes and delivers bento. I thought the food was taking a little long to arrive, and when I looked, they were making bento. It felt like, you haven't even started ours yet!😓

Hyakuban, the franchise developed by Sapporo ramen's Horyu, now has only a few surviving shops in its home city of Sapporo and has lost its former momentum. The Sapporo style of pouring soup into vegetables stir-fried in a large wok and simmering it away is a classic! Anyway, I had vegetable ramen (shoyu) at this Tomikawa branch. The portion was decent and well balanced, but something was missing… It almost seems to refuse to evolve rather than go along with the times, but the minimum courtesy in customer service is still necessary.
