A multi level museum with an observation deck at its top (so it's better in good weather!). Honestly great for geology students or fans, else you will see a bunch of rocks (it was interesting enough for me and the kids!).

View on GoogleI had the opportunity to visit the Hidaka Mountain Range Museum during our trip around Hokkaido, and it was an interesting stop for our journey through Hidaka. As someone who enjoys visiting museums and learning about the history and natural features of the places we travel to, I found the museum worth taking the time to explore. The exhibits gave me a better understanding of the Hidaka Mountain Range, including its geological formation, natural environment, wildlife, and the history of mountain exploration in the region. Seeing the information and displays in person helped me appreciate the mountains surrounding the area much more. I also enjoyed that this is a relatively quiet and lesser-known attraction. It was a nice place to slow down, learn something new, and gain a deeper appreciation for Hokkaido's natural history. If you are traveling through Hidaka and have an interest in mountains, geology, nature, or local history, I recommend adding the Hidaka Mountain Range Museum to your itinerary.
View on Google【 Check the opening hours and books! 】 The exhibition is compact enough that you can see everything in 30 minutes. The book section has a good selection on nature, minerals, fossils, and more, and I made discoveries like, “Oh, there’s a book like this〜”★ You could browse them here, then look them up online later and buy them★ One thing to watch out for: the opening hours shown on Google Maps aren’t accurate! Opening hours differ between summer and winter, so it’s safer to check the official website before going. It isn’t flashy, but I think it’s a place where people interested in nature and geology can enjoy themselves quietly★
