I read 菜の花の沖 by 司馬遼太郎, learned about 高田屋嘉兵衛, and decided to visit. If it's open, you might get to enjoy a lucky day

It doesn't stand out very much, but it is a museum housing materials on the life and legacy of 高田屋嘉兵衛, in a building originally used as a kombu warehouse.

While enjoying a morning walk, I came across this memorial museum. Reading the information board, I learned that he had been active in developing the fishing industry, negotiating peace with Russia, and more. Unfortunately, I couldn't look inside, but the building has a lovely atmosphere.

Unfortunately, it was currently closed. It is a traditional warehouse-style building, and farther back across the road there are red-brick warehouses and a fir tree. The blend of Japanese and Western styles was beautiful.
