茶房菊泉Kikuizumi
The annex of the former Kikuizumi main store, a sake wholesaler founded in Meiji 15. It now operates as a tea house. On April 10, 2024, management changed, and we reopened with a completely new menu.

Lots of different dessert sets you could get and various options of seating from sitting in the floor to sitting at the table on chairs. We got two sets: 1. Dango set with 3 different toppings 2. Ice cream and red bean paste set. Both sets come with a choice of a drink. I had the matcha green tea and my partner had the ice coffee.
View on GoogleWe tried the grilled dango set, which came with three types of toppings: sweet soy sauce, red bean paste, and black sugar syrup with soy bean powder. The dango were on the softer side — you’ll need to grill them carefully, as they tend to stick if placed directly on the wire mesh. We also had the sweet bean porridge set. The food was decent, nothing particularly special, but it’s a cute little café to take a break from walking around. Lovely traditional tea house vibe, with a choice of tatami seating or regular tables and chairs.
View on GoogleThis charming old house offers a cozy atmosphere, especially during heavy snowfall. They serve matcha and dessert, making it a delightful place to enjoy the winter season. The red bean chocolate with matcha or the oshiruko red bean dessert set are must-try treats. The coffee is just okay, with black coffee and creamer available.
View on GoogleThis is a very traditional building serving great coffee and Japanese sweet treats - perfect for morning time. We went twice for the coffee but also had the hibachi grilled dango and another dish with icecream and red bean paste.
View on GoogleSince I was in Hakodate, this was one of the places I intended to visit as it was featured in Love Live Sunshine (a mix media franchise featuring school idols). The building is reminiscent of the meiji/taisho era and is in great shape. The desserts they served was great as well. I didn't have to wait long as had it during tea time (3pm-ish). Very cozy as well with a lot of character inside the building. Very enjoyable experience. Well worth the experience.
