I'm so glad to find this place. MUST ORDER the grilled crab on shell. Personally i feel it's the best value for money item we ordered. The whole shell was filled with yummy crab meat. The crab leg steak was huge and fun to try as it's reasonably priced but I'll come back again just for the grilled crab on shell. Bang for bucks! Very nice service too.
View on GoogleOne of the best restaurant during my visit in Hokkaido. I found this izajaya while looking for something to eat and it is located among arrays of food stalls in a food court where Japaneses come to hangout. My guess that they are more locals than tourists. And I was drawn by the pictures of the food. The English shop naned Crab house. Not to wonder, for seafood, esp. Crab lovers. Despite their English is limited but they put a lot of effort in communicating with foreign customers. The seating was limited as they had U-shape table. It seemed the place for people to hangout and they served lots of alcohols. I was alone but had a feeling to try things that I was drawn to the snow crab omelette, snow crab gratin, and snow crab soup. The fun part was on the soup that they lit the soup within the shell and waiting until boil so us as customers will mix. Such a fun part to experience how to cook snow crab properly. The soup was the best for me. The gratin was confirmed by a Japanese guy next me-sound like he is a regular customer he mentioned that this was not to be missed, yes he was right. As I ordered three and nothing was left on my dishes. Couldn't praised this place enough. The price was high yes but very affordable when we talked about eating snow crabs. A must try experience. Hidden gem, and highly recommend.
View on GoogleWe had dinner here together and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was excellent, and all the staff were polite and welcoming. The relaxed atmosphere made it easy to chat and enjoy the evening, and the prices were very reasonable. We would happily dine here again.
View on GoogleStumbled across this place for our last night in Hakodate. Despite not being massive seafood lovers, my wife and I decided to give it a shot here since that’s what they’re famous for. Can’t say we were disappointed! The food was superb and tasty, particularly the snow crab nabe and grilled snow crab. The crab was very sweet and juicy, and even though I made an absolute mess the taste was definitely worth the effort. The manager and staff were super lovely and friendly, and loved a good chat. We loved how cozy the atmosphere was as it gave a very authentic izakaya vibe. The prices seemed reasonable and relative to what you pay, but I wouldn’t recommend coming here if you’re in a rush. Also note there’s a cover charge of at least 1 drink and meal per person, although it does include a small salad with a piece of ham on top.
View on GoogleCozy izakaya-style restaurant specializing in crab dishes and drinks — featuring several types of crab to try. The restaurant isn’t very spacious, and as a foreign visitor, I initially felt a bit self-conscious with staff and others watching closely. But in reality, the staff just wanted to provide great service — and they really did! They were very attentive and helpful throughout the meal. The food is excellent, with rich crab flavors and quality ingredients. Prices are on the higher side, but it’s worth it for a special crab-focused dining experience.
