Good place
View on Google8 minutes by car from in front of JR Hakodate Station. A theme park dedicated to Toshizo Hijikata and Takuboku Ishikawa, both connected with Hakodate, on coastal National Route 278. Free parking for 6 cars. Admission is 800 yen. Buying an electronic ticket in advance gets you a 10% discount. Floor 1 is the Toshizo Hijikata area. Hijikata was born into a farming family in Ishida Village, Tama District, Musashi Province (present-day Hino, Tokyo), and lived through the turbulent transition from Edo to Meiji. He died in the Battle of Hakodate before fulfilling his ambitions. Many valuable collection items tell the story of his life to later generations. You can also see materials from the end of the Edo period and original documentary footage. Floor 2 is the Takuboku Ishikawa area. A tanka poet and poet from Iwate who was active during the Meiji era. Known as an innovator of modern tanka. He was also talented as a poet and created his own distinctive world. In Hokkaido, he worked as a substitute elementary school teacher, among other jobs, in Hakodate, Sapporo, and Otaru. He died of tuberculosis at 26 and is buried at Tachimachi Cape. Personally, alongside his passion for culture, I have a stronger image of Takuboku as a man with many romances. Perhaps that was another driving force for him. This theme park had caught my interest every time I came to Hakodate. I learned on a Hokkaido TV broadcast that it would close at the end of this month, so I visited for the first time. I'm glad I made it in time. Thank you.
View on GoogleA memorial museum about Toshizo Hijikata and Takuboku Ishikawa, who are said to have connections with Hakodate. While taking a bus from the tropical botanical garden back to Hakodate Station, we passed right in front, so I got off along the way and stopped by. The building has 2 floors, with exhibits about Toshizo Hijikata on floor 1 and Takuboku Ishikawa on floor 2. Both lived in the 1800s, but their lifetimes did not overlap, and they worked in different fields, so there is no content bringing them together; the exhibits are completely separate. Admission is 800 yen, and you cannot enter just one section, so it might feel rather expensive for someone interested in only one of them. There is a seaside park beside the building with a very nice view. There was also a statue of Takuboku Ishikawa.
View on GoogleExcuse me. Today, Thursday 2024/10/31, since Hijikata–Takuboku Romankan was closing, I hurried over on foot! There were people at the entrance who seemed to be from a TV station! I quickly paid the 800 yen admission fee to the pleasant receptionist, then looked around and took photos in the Hijikata section on the first floor and the Takuboku section on the second. On my way out, I received 2 Hijikata posters and went home. It's sad to think this is goodbye, but I'm glad I made it in time. That's all for my report. Thank you. Excuse me.🙂
View on GoogleWe liked this little museum. So small, but! The exhibits are substantial. Admission is only 800 yen. There's also, “naturally,” a souvenir shop where you can buy something to remember it by. Stop in, you won't regret it!
