Had lunch at the eatery in a corner of the ferry terminal. It's only open for a limited season, but it's a very satisfying eatery where you can enjoy fresh seafood. The kaisendon I ordered was colorful with sweet shrimp, scallops, salmon, ikura, sea urchin, and more; every topping was fresh, and I enjoyed it very much. Even the small side dishes, grilled fish, and miso soup were carefully made, and what stuck with me was that everything was delicious. The portion was generous too, and it was very satisfying. It's in the ferry terminal, but when I visited, many people weren't ferry passengers but had come just to eat, so I felt it must be popular with locals as well. It's a recommended eatery I'd want to stop by again whenever I'm in the area.

Visited during the long holidays. It was past 12, so there was a decent line. Since they handle the waiting board and the ticket machine at the same time, people seem to get backed up when it gets crowded. The ticket machine is cash only and takes only 1000-yen bills. The staff will gladly make change for you. Inside there's one big table that looks like it seats more than 10, plus a counter. The staff handled customers briskly, so we were seated surprisingly quickly. I was torn about the signature seafood, but since I'd been eating a lot of seafood, I ordered the ramen and curry "Manpuku Set." The ramen isn't like a fussy specialty shop's—in a good way, it has a food-court kind of cheapness. On the other hand, the subtle seafood umami and the clever layer of oil that keeps it piping hot to the end made me think, as expected of Hokkaido. What surprised me was the curry. I wasn't expecting anything from it at all, but the umami of the vegetables stewed in a big pot really came through, and it was very delicious. For the price of 1300 yen, the portion literally fills you up. I was very satisfied.

🦐Savoring the seafood of northern Hokkaido at Hama no Kaachan Shokudo🦐 An eatery run directly by the fishermen's cooperative, attached to the Haboro Ferry Terminal in Hokkaido, loved by everyone from travelers waiting for the ferry to Teuri and Yagishiri Islands to locals. Open seasonally, only from May to the end of August. The ramen, with local ingredients on top of a pufferfish dashi soup, is light yet packed with umami, with a gentle finish where the noodles and soup naturally come together. True to Haboro, one of the top sweet shrimp ports in Hokkaido, the lineup is impressive, including a plump, bouncy sweet shrimp bowl and a sea urchin bowl from nearby Teuri Island, and popular items often sell out early. The prepaid, self-service meal ticket machine keeps ordering quick, and the friendly service of the "kaachan" (moms) warms up the travel mood. 🌀Open for a limited period only, May to end of August. The meal ticket machine only takes 1000-yen bills and coins, so don't forget to prepare in advance🍃 Recommended for "people who want to enjoy local food before or after a trip to Teuri and Yagishiri Islands" and "people who want to casually enjoy fresh seafood from northern Hokkaido"—a go-to food spot for a Haboro ferry trip🦐 🌟Overall rating: ★4.0 / 5.0
