Starting in January this year (2025·R7), 「江差·横山家 保護再生プロジェクト」 was launched. "江差歴史文化再生機構" is raising funds from within and outside the town to acquire and reuse 「横山家」, a town property designated by Hokkaido as a Tangible Folk Cultural Property. According to reports and other sources, the target is 3千万円 in 1 year. In 2018·H30.3, the eighth-generation heir, 横山敬三, died suddenly at age 73. 「家傳 にしんそば 江差横山家」 was consequently forced to suspend operations, and the museum has also been closed since June that year. However, those involved are working to reopen and revive both. The appropriate business status should therefore be "temporarily closed," rather than "permanently closed." The soba shop's website also remains online describing it as temporarily closed (meaning they haven't quit or closed permanently). My first visit was during 姥神大神宮渡御祭 on 2025·R7.8.9~11, to check the exterior and gather information. With hopes for everyone's efforts, I wish for the museum and soba shop to reopen soon.
View on GoogleIt's closed during winter, so you can't go inside, but from outside it looks beautiful and full of history🤩

I thought the herring was seasoned a little more lightly than what you get in Kyoto… but it went well with the soba. The soba itself, however, was somewhat disappointing. Perhaps it simply happened to be poorly boiled, but that part alone wasn't acceptable.
