Tried the herring warm soba since the town is famous for their herring since the 17th century, wasn't disappointed 😊

This small diner has parking. On weekdays, there are six lunch sets to choose from. The menu is entirely in Japanese, so make good use of Google 翻譯 or chatGPT. The fried chicken and ginger pork are both delicious😋. Cash only💴 Looking back at the photos, I noticed the ginger pork set was missing its fried egg. The regular rice portion is generous; if you aren't very hungry, I'd suggest a small bowl. Visited after walking around 鷗島.

I had the ebi fry set, and not only were the shrimp huge, they were delicious and the rice was piled high. I'm stuffed. I wonder what it'd be like if I ordered a large portion~

2026.5 「つるみ食堂」, a long-established diner in 江差町. Apparently it's been open for over 70 years. Their generous set meals seem to be well regarded, but today I had nishin soba. The broth tastes sweet when you drink it. I wonder if that sweetness comes from the sweet-simmered herring. The herring retains some bite rather than being soft. As I kept drinking the broth, a crisp, delicious dashi flavor came through—perhaps the original flavor of the soba broth—and I nearly drank it all.
