The Shigejiro Statue is a small but meaningful landmark that adds a touch of local character to the area. While it may not be a major tourist attraction, it reflects a piece of regional history and culture that visitors can appreciate, especially when exploring nearby sites. The statue itself is simple yet dignified, and it stands as a tribute to Shigejiro, a figure connected to the community’s heritage. It’s an easy stop if you are already in the area, and it offers a nice opportunity for a quick photo or a quiet moment of reflection.
View on GoogleLooking lively☺️. I stopped by again after 2 years. What a unique statue. According to the materials, he was a master of wit who really lived in Esashi, Oshima Province (now Esashi Town), around the end of the shogunate👀‼️. I hear he is treasured as a beloved local character. He seems to be used in various tourism projects👏👏. Here's to even more activity🆗.

Take a look at the sea! Looks like a Kitamae ship has arrived♪ Come on, over here… come closer! …hehehe I bet he was the kind of old guy who said things like that all the time~
