2026·R8.8.11 A return visit. This year I've learned how to watch the festival and manage my time, so I slipped in before the 14 L.O. to eat lunch before watching the uphill run (avoiding last year's struggle to find lunch). I ordered "週替りセット@1,000" and "ビール(中瓶)@650." I was hungry and started eating immediately, so please excuse the partially eaten food in the photos. This year the timing didn't work out to hear the 切り声 here, but as I was leaving I asked, "Is the big proprietress here? I came last year too," and she remembered me—I was deeply moved! I also heard what she'd been up to (apparently following sumo as a fan, including traveling around its tours), and had a lovely time. ↓ 2025·R7.8.11 My first visit, having missed lunch, so it was almost dinner. I wanted to watch the floats in the 上町 procession of 姥神大神宮渡御祭 run up the difficult slope beside 檜山神社. While closely following their movements, I found this eatery and dropped in for the first time. An official from 中歌町's "蛭子山" happened to be inside. Shortly afterward, many people entered and "切り声" began. As a tourist, I'd had several opportunities to see "切り声" from a distance at shops and businesses that gave celebration donations, but this was my first time experiencing it up close. Apparently the mother of the man singing in a resonant low voice was also there and seemed close to the proprietress. When I told the proprietress, "That 切り声 was so moving it somehow brought me to tears," she showed me festival photos from when she was young. Visiting every year may be difficult, but I'll definitely return. The food was delicious too. 渡御祭 is the best! 江差 is the best! No photos because there wasn't time to take any! Opening hours are 11~14:30,17~19:30, closed Sundays.
View on GoogleI ordered chicken cutlet curry nanban. The soba was ordinary, but I think the dish was delicious overall. It's also nice that you can pay with paypay.
View on GoogleI was satisfied with both the portion and the taste. The shop is spacious inside and has tatami seating, with room for what looks like 6.7 families. There's also a large communal table in the center, so solo diners can feel comfortable coming in. The staff seemed busy in the kitchen, but I was happy they came immediately when called.
View on Google2026/5 I had 「週替わり定食」. My partner had 「日替わり定食」. The weekly set was katsudon and sansai soba. The soba broth was on the sweet side, just how I like it, so I was happy. The daily set was a lavish spread of fried gyoza, simmered satsuma-age, vegetable salad, macaroni salad, miso soup… (sorry, no photo). It's an old-fashioned soba and set-meal shop, and the staff were pleasantly welcoming too.
View on GoogleThe calm Japanese-style interior is built entirely from hinoki, with spacious table and tatami seating for relaxing. The daily set meals are another attraction, letting you enjoy it without getting bored.
