A facility where you can learn about the history and nature of Esashi Town and the Sea of Okhotsk coast. In particular, it displays many artifacts of the Epi-Jomon and Satsumon cultures that flourished in Hokkaido during the period corresponding to the Yayoi through Kamakura periods on Honshu, as well as the Okhotsk culture that flourished along the Sea of Okhotsk coast.

The Okhotsk Museum Esashi, with its castle-like architecture, offers a fascinating glimpse into the region’s rich history and culture. The museum features a wide variety of exhibits, ranging from the natural world to the unique Okhotsk culture, providing visitors with a comprehensive look at the area’s heritage. If you're a history enthusiast or simply love to explore cultural exhibits, you can easily spend 2 to 3 hours here, immersing yourself in the displays and learning about the diverse aspects of the region. One of the best things about the museum is that entrance is completely free, making it an excellent spot for visitors of all budgets.
View on GoogleNice and tidy museum. Was really interesting to learn more about the Othotsk people! Also all the animals on display was a great way to learn about what lives on Hokkaido.
View on GoogleA smallish but most excellent local museum with a skeleton of an Orca as its prime exhibit and an extensive section about the ancient people who used to like in the area. Entry is free and the exhibit guide is tablet-based. Recommend a visit if you are in the area and want to learn more about local fauna, history and archaeology.
View on GoogleWe were so glad to visit this museum. It was filled with great exhibits about the ocean, nature, and history. We enjoyed more than 2 hours learning and playing. There was a wonderful playground nearby.
View on GoogleThere are a wide variety of taxidermy specimens, from animals to fish, insects, and more. Each one comes with an explanatory POP card, so I could learn backgrounds of these creatures I hadn't known, and enjoyed it more than I expected. On top of that, admission is free, which was a surprise. I recommend it for people who can read the explanatory text, but I think you can enjoy it just looking at the specimens without understanding it too.
