Visiting the Tip of Cape Erimo (襟裳岬突端) was one of the memorable stops during our journey through southern Hokkaido. The dramatic coastline, powerful ocean, and wide-open views made this place feel truly special. Standing at the tip of the cape, surrounded by the vast Pacific Ocean and the rugged landscape of Erimo, gave us a wonderful sense of how beautiful and wild Hokkaido can be. My family and I visited this area during our 2-Day Southern Hokkaido Road Trip 2024, as part of my Japan Diaries 5 travel series. It was another meaningful destination on our journey to visit all 179 municipalities of Hokkaido. We enjoyed taking in the scenery, spending time together, and appreciating the natural beauty of this remote corner of Japan. A great place to stop if you are exploring Cape Erimo and the Hidaka region, especially for travelers who enjoy spectacular coastal scenery and quiet, memorable places.

My long-held wish to stand here someday finally came true, but because of the typhoon, the wind was so strong I couldn't stand straight. It was also cold enough to make my hands numb, and there were few tourists. That meant I could photograph the signs and other things without worrying about other people watching.

It's a scenic place with free parking, but the public toilets were closed, and toilets were only available in the paid area.

The scenery was nice, and it looked like you could also see seals if you had good binoculars.

As the famous song says, this might be a place with “nothing,” but what is there is the overwhelming scale of magnificent nature! The reefs stretching endlessly toward the Pacific Ocean and the dynamic scenery of white waves crashing against them are simply breathtaking. There is a maintained walking path, and you can walk close to the tip of the cape. If you want that “edge of the world” feeling on your Hokkaido trip, this is a place you absolutely cannot miss!
