After seeing 新垣結衣 and 星野源 eating Yamaguchi Prefecture's local dish 「瓦そば」 so appetizingly in the drama 『逃げ恥』, I finally got to try it today! The tea soba, slightly browned on the piping-hot roof tile, was crispy and delicious too! The finishing rice, eaten by dipping 16-grain rice into the soba broth, was delicious as well♫
View on GoogleMid-May 2026 With each changing era, National Route 36 has changed its course. This street in Eniwa, where the restaurant I visited stands, could perhaps be called the old-old Route 36. It was once the main street, with even a cinema in its shopping district until the early Heisei era. Many people settled in Eniwa, Hokkaido, from Yamaguchi Prefecture at the westernmost end of Honshu during the Meiji era. Thanks to that connection, ties with Yamaguchi remain strong today, and there seems to be a sister-city partnership too♪ ____恵庭フィエスタ___ This restaurant is also run by someone who moved from Yamaguchi in recent years, making it a rare place in Hokkaido to taste Yamaguchi's local cuisine! There are parking spaces for 3 cars? behind the restaurant♪ 【瓦そば】 Unusual, isn't it~ In snowy Hokkaido, tiled-roof houses provide too much ventilation and are unsuitable in terms of the building's weight balance, so they're rare outside southern Hokkaido, where snowfall is lighter. Roof tiles are nostalgic for 梅四郎, who has lived in Osaka and Fukuoka, but for many Hokkaido residents, perhaps they're something from period dramas? Here is today's pioneering spirit, using roof tiles' excellent heat conduction to serve 瓦そば with the same quality and un-tiled… no… unchanged deliciousness as in its home region! Currently, as far as 梅四郎 knows, there is only one other restaurant in Hokkaido, in Memuro, Tokachi, serving a Hokkaido-adapted 瓦そば. A rare menu item☝️ It's a noodle dish in which soba is grilled on a piping-hot roof tile, then dipped into broth with beef and finely shredded egg, and eaten tsukemen-style. It's fun to experience the contrasting textures of the soft noodles and the parts crisped by the tile's residual heat; a dish of changing textures♪ The noodles' faintly bitter, toasty aroma is probably because they're tea soba. Apparently the broth is slightly sweeter in its home region, while here it's been customized a little for Hokkaido tastes☝️ It exceeded what I'd imagined before eating〜♪ This is delicious food! Next time I'll increase the noodles or add finishing rice—thank you for the meal~♪
View on GoogleIt was my first time eating 瓦そば. The egg was fluffy, the broth was refreshing, and the browned parts of the soba were crisp and delicious. I'd like to use this place again to treat visiting guests.
View on GoogleUpdate Thank you for always delivering the bento meals. On R8.2/3 (Tuesday), I had the special-menu soba sushi ehomaki. It may be hard to convey, but it's quite substantial. The soba flavor comes through a gentle tanginess. The fillings, such as meat and egg, added their flavors too, and I enjoyed it right to the end. I look forward to your continued service. R7.10/5, arrived at the restaurant at 10:45. There was already 1 group waiting in their car in the parking lot. Reacting to my arrival, they started lining up. The weather was good, so the sunlight was intense…. They opened at exactly 11:00, and I sat at the counter. The interior certainly isn't spacious, but it feels calm and clean. I had 瓦そば with an additional half portion (¥1,300+¥450). Adding lemon slices to the light broth gave it a nice refreshing touch. Then there was the sweet-savory meat and the crispness of the slightly browned soba. It was very delicious. I also rely on their lunch bento every day. I hope the couple stay healthy and keep up their great work. Next time I'll come to eat みかん鍋.
View on GoogleShimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture's local dish 【瓦そば】. The only restaurant in Hokkaido; the texture of tea soba eaten as it browns on a piping-hot roof tile is interesting. Visit date 2024.10.4 The only restaurant in Hokkaido where you can eat 瓦そば, 【cafe&IT Fiesta】. It's in Eniwa City, about 3 minutes from the Eniwa expressway interchange. A local dish from Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Tea soba is placed on a piping-hot roof tile, with beef and finely shredded egg as toppings. ※Long ago, during the Satsuma Rebellion, Satsuma soldiers reportedly grilled vegetables and meat on roof tiles to eat. That story seems to be the origin of 瓦そば. It reminded me of a trip to Kyushu several years ago, when I crossed the Kanmon Strait and first ate it in Shimonoseki. Thanks to the heated roof tile, the tea soba becomes crispy, making the texture fun. It was my first time eating crispy noodles apart from those in ankake yakisoba. The current menu has 3 choices: 瓦そば, curry, or set meals. There also seem to be desserts. Of course, I ordered 【瓦そば】 with extra noodles. It took about 20 minutes. Heating the tile probably takes time. The tea soba arrived sizzling on a huge roof tile, topped with sweet-seasoned beef and finely shredded egg. The dipping sauce was seasoned a little differently from Kyushu's. Sweet soy sauce is used in Shimonoseki, but this restaurant used regular soy sauce to suit Hokkaido residents' tastes. Personally, I found it easy to enjoy, which was nice✨ As time passes, the tea soba gets crispier, so you can enjoy the changing texture while eating. If you don't know 【瓦そば】 yet, why not try it 1 time✨ Thank you for the meal~
