Great view from the seicomart just below
View on GoogleThere is a good view of Engaru just below an old observatory atop Ganbō Cliff (in Ainu, Pirikanoka). The cliff edge is not fenced, offering a great panorama for those who don’t have vertigo.
View on GoogleNice view up here . Chance upon this while driving past
View on GoogleIt was featured in a video about sightseeing around the hotel where I planned to stay, so I went to check it out. Approaching by car, I could see the huge rock face even from a distance. At the parking lot, the towering rocky hill loomed large in front of me. It was impressive. After taking it in for a while, I looked for the way up, but it was closed to access. With the heat that day as well, I gave up on climbing. I had thought it would be quite a climb to the top. Later, while driving around the area, there seemed to be another way up at the back, but I felt it was too late by then and left it. Enjoying the view from the summit and the breeze will have to wait for another opportunity.
View on GoogleApril 2026 The stairway path up from behind 遠軽公園 is closed because part of it collapsed during earlier heavy rain. So we went around the back and climbed from the 太陽の丘 side. It’s a little scary because there is no fence. But you can see the whole town, which feels nice. We could also see trains entering and leaving 遠軽駅. At the place we visited last night, we heard that the Sea of Okhotsk was visible too, but perhaps because of the clouds, I couldn’t make it out clearly. Apparently it is no longer used, but there is also a small astronomical observatory, so the stars must be beautiful.
