Incredible museum - curator Toshiaki Sugiyama 杉山 俊明 氏(遠 )has created a collection with so many areas of interest. He was a history teacher for 36 years and he knows so much about Hokkaido. He is happy to share his knowledge. His obsidian collection that he personally gathered throughout Japan is very impressive.
View on GoogleAt the local-history museum, the staff shared fascinating stories about 遠軽町's history. We received souvenirs through a handmade game and were able to spend a very enjoyable and meaningful time. Thank you.
View on GoogleA municipal museum at the foot of 瞰望岩. Right next door is 遠軽神社, along with a railway crossing and footbridge overlooking the switchback station 遠軽駅. The area is packed with 遠軽's distinctive character. Being municipally run, admission is a bargain at 160 yen. 1F has exhibits on 遠軽's history and nature, while 2F has displays related to 名寄本線, history, and everyday life in the past. There was more worth seeing than I'd expected.
View on GoogleMany materials related to 遠軽 are exhibited. Apparently 遠軽 is famous as a source of obsidian, and I received 1 piece as a souvenir of my visit. There are also materials about the closed 名寄本線 and 遠軽-born 安彦良和, so I think fans of various interests can enjoy it.
View on Google安彦先生's shikishi board was nice 😃 I also heard interesting stories from the staff and received obsidian as a souvenir.
