Very unique museum that also displays art installations. The one that I saw in Dec 2025 was a Tomicar collection of Japanese cars. Very impressive. There are also roving exhibits (FOC) on level 1. The current one was about Jomon mount. In the museum, you can also experience indigo dyeing for free between 10am to 4pm. The last lesson should be at 330pm as it would take 30mins. On the other side is a knife making live exhibit where a master sword maker is making Japanese swords while you watch. You can also enter the workshop but not allowed to touch any of the equipment. These are free activities which you can enjoy while learning about some local culture. Strongly recommend if you have some time. I used it as a stop to visit while I wait for laundry to be done at a laundromat close by.

This is a small but amazing museum that punches above its weight. The first floor can be visited for free. There is an exhibition detailing the local areas Jomon past and the local Jomon archeological site. There is also here a sculpture here by local artist Watanabe Motoka. The second floor is a paid exhibition showing some finds from the Jomon archeological site, another about a local 19th century missionary and a 400 year old Hina Matsuri display. The museum is attached to the culture center. Here you can try indigo dying and traditional Japanese sword making. Well worth a visit.

The Date History and Culture Museum is a small yet charming museum that offers a decent number of exhibits showcasing the local history and culture. It's conveniently located within walking distance of Date Roadside Station, making it easy to access. The museum also provides plenty of parking, which is a plus for visitors. While not large, it offers a thoughtful glimpse into the region's heritage. A great spot for a quick visit if you're in the area. Ticket price: 300 yen

Small museum with exhibits telling the double history of this area - the Date clan of former samurais and the Ainu people of this region. Hardly any English on exhibits, but there is a free download for phones and a cheap iPad guide too. The museum often has short term exhibitions of swords, samurai uniforms and information about the Jomon shell mounds of the coastal area. AND! Next to the Michi-no-Eki with all the delicious foods!!!

Various things from Date City are on display. It feels like an art museum, a museum, and a library all in one!
