We visited the Airport History Museum at New Chitose Airport and were pleasantly surprised by how engaging and informative it is. The museum provides a detailed look at the history of aviation in Hokkaido, the development of New Chitose Airport, and the role of air travel in connecting the region. The exhibits are well-organized and easy to follow, making it enjoyable for both casual visitors and aviation enthusiasts. What I particularly liked was how the museum balances historical information with interactive elements. There are displays that allow you to get a closer look at aircraft models, airport equipment, and historical photos, giving a sense of how air travel has evolved over the years. The museum is compact enough to explore in a short visit, making it a convenient stop if you have time before a flight.

This small exhibition facility with free admission is located between the food court and スーパーラウンジ on the 3rd floor of the domestic terminal. It consists of 2 areas: a history zone with panel displays introducing the changes at 新千歳空港, and a gallery zone displaying JAL cabin crew uniforms through the years, airplane models, and old in-flight amenities. It's ideal for passing the time before boarding, especially worthwhile for aviation fans and anyone interested in the evolution of cabin crew uniforms. With few visitors, it's a hidden spot where you can browse quietly.

A hidden gem where you can learn about the history of 新千歳空港 for free. The “THEATER” in particular is a must-see, packed with rare footage from the time. The changes over the years are astonishing, from the vast, empty grasslands that once surrounded the airport to views of 苫小牧 when it was far less developed than today. There are various exhibits inside, but they are compactly arranged, so you can make a circuit in about 5 minutes. It's easy to drop in during spare time before a flight, so I highly recommend it to history lovers and anyone wanting to enrich their travel memories. A hidden gem where you can learn about the history of New Chitose Airport for free. The "THEATER" is definitely worth a visit, as it's packed with rare historical footage. It’s fascinating to see that the area around the airport used to be mostly empty grasslands, and Tomakomai was far less developed than it is today. While there are various interesting exhibits, you can walk through the entire museum in about 5 minutes. If you have a little extra time before your flight, I highly recommend stopping by! This is a great place to learn about the history of 新千岁机场 for free. The “THEATER(screening room)” is especially recommended, filled with precious historical footage and well worth seeing. The footage shows that the airport's surroundings were once almost entirely desolate grasslands, and 苫小牧 was not as prosperous as it is today, making the changes over time quite moving. There are plenty of exhibits, but the facility is moderately sized, so you can see it all in about 5 minutes. If you have spare time while waiting for your flight, stop by for a look; it's very interesting.

An exhibition facility just before the passage from the airport's 3rd-floor food court to the observation deck. It introduces the history of 新千歳空港 in 3 zones. <History zone> Panel displays about the major transformation from 千歳飛行場 to 新千歳空港. There's a mini theater at the back where you can enjoy video footage, too. <Gallery zone> Displays cabin crew uniforms through the years (JAL), as well as merchandise from past airline events. <Symbol zone> Rows of airplane models from different eras. The large aircraft in the center is the jumbo jet 「ボーイング747-400」. It's not particularly large, but it's interesting as a facility you can casually stop by before boarding. Visited 2026.1
