There are permanent and special exhibitions. It costs money if you want to see everything, but apparently there's no charge for just the permanent exhibition. There were exhibits on the environment, plants, and animals around 美幌, works by artists from there, the history of 美幌, and a special display of a wildlife photographer's work. You can get a full view of 美幌 from the observation deck.

Admission 300円. Free for JAF members. Photography is generally prohibited inside, except in some areas. Exhibition Room 1 covers the nature and history of 美幌, focusing on 屈斜路湖. Exhibition Room 2 covers familiar local nature, focusing on agriculture in 美幌. Exhibition Room 3 is an art gallery, with content varying by season. There's an observation deck up the spiral staircase from the second floor. The field of view is narrow, and the view isn't great. Since photography is generally prohibited, you quickly forget if you rely only on memory. In fact, I don't remember a single thing about the contents of Exhibition Room 2. Most museums in Hokkaido allow photography, so I think they should take a more proactive approach.

From the outside, it's quite a large building. I visited around 13:00 on a weekday. There were hardly any visitors. Admission appears to be 300円, but it was free with my JAF membership card. There are 3 exhibition rooms spread across floors 1 and 2. Various exhibits cover the history, nature, and industry of 美幌. The tractor display catches your eye. It also seems to be an art museum, with works by artists connected to 美幌 and by children and students. There are quite a lot of exhibits, so it looks like it would take a fair amount of time to examine them carefully.

I stopped by on a weekday during some spare time before a flight from 女満別空港. I've visited “美幌町” many times for work, but I didn't know this museum existed. Since JAF members enter for free, I gratefully took up the offer and spent a meaningful time there. You can experience carefully arranged exhibits and a leisurely passage of time that made me, in my 50s, feel “nostalgic” ♪ The exhibits can also be enjoyed by young children. Photos of the exhibits provided by 美幌博物館(BIHORO MUSEUM).

I got in free when I showed my JAF membership card. It might be rude to say it was unexpected, but there was plenty worth seeing. It was quite interesting. Taking my time to see everything took just under 2 hours.
