The view of the cascading waterfall flowing into the cobalt-blue river from the bridge is stunning. It’s very easy to access from the parking area. However, the bridge walkway is quite narrow with zero seating available. You'll have to stand the entire time while taking photos among the crowds, making it a quick 'stop-photo-and-go' spot.

I visited Shirahige Waterfall on a Friday early afternoon in June. I had walked from Blue Pond, which I recommend because if you're taking the public bus, it's awkward to jump off, visit Blue Pond, then wait for another bus to continue on toward this waterfall. There is a dedicated walkway and the walk itself was ~45 mins with a detour to another waterfall along the way. I'm sure every other review mentions how beautiful the waterfall is. Great. It is. It seemed like most tourists went halfway across the bridge, took pictures of the waterfall, then hightailed it back to their tour buses. Well on the other side of the bridge is a pedestrian tunnel that goes up the mountain. 'What is that?' I wondered. Well it's an evacuation route/exercise path? There are various questions about Japan and the region spread across the ascent. See my pic for the question on step 59 (the answer was on step 76). At the top was the evacuation shelter, a nice view of the mountains, and not much else. Back on the other side of the bridge was an ice cream stand, another food stall, a café, restrooms, and plenty of other places to just walk around. The waterfall is nice and pretty and all that, but personally I found exploring the greater area to be a little more interesting.

Went here on a weekday by bus. It was only a short walk to reach the Shirogane Bridge. Entry is free. From the bridge, you can enjoy the view of Shirahige Waterfall & Biei River. It was mesmerizing to look at. The view was really nice & the color of the water was beautiful. At the end of the bridge, there's a long stairs (about 286 steps) to reach the Tokachidake Volcano & Erosion Control Information Center. Enjoyed our time here.

This was easily one of the most beautiful waterfalls I’ve seen. The water seems to emerge directly from the cliff face before cascading down into the stunning blue river below. The combination of the waterfall and the vivid blue water creates a truly unique sight. The viewing area is easily accessible, and the waterfall can be enjoyed from the bridge above. The sound of the rushing water combined with the surrounding natural scenery creates a very peaceful atmosphere. I found myself standing there much longer than planned because the view was so captivating. Whether you’re a photographer or simply someone who enjoys nature, this place is absolutely worth visiting. It was one of the standout highlights of my entire Hokkaido trip.

Shirahige Falls is one of the most beautiful natural spots in Biei, especially during winter. The partially frozen waterfall creates a unique and stunning view, and the contrast between the blue water and snow makes it even more impressive. The view from the bridge is absolutely breathtaking and gives you the best perspective of the falls. At night, the illumination adds another layer of beauty. I stayed at a nearby ryokan, and being able to see the waterfall even from the outdoor onsen made the experience truly unforgettable. It was incredibly relaxing and felt like a perfect winter escape. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Biei. Check my profile for more travel tips and hidden spots.
