Kan Yasuda's sculptures are showcased at this museum park, featuring 40 pieces in marble & bronze.
アルテピアッツァ美唄 is an outdoor sculpture museum still being developed by the city of 美唄 and internationally renowned local-born sculptor 安田侃 on the site of a former school associated with a closed coal mine. The contemporary sculptures harmonize deeply with the surrounding trees, clear streams, and other natural features, captivating visitors. More than 40 marble and bronze works are displayed inside and outside the facilities. The 2nd floor of the wooden school building is a gallery displaying sculptures in classrooms that retain the atmosphere of their school days. At 「カフェアルテ」 on the grounds, you can enjoy a relaxing time with fragrant coffee and light meals.

If you love outdoor art that you can touch and interact with then is a must visit place. The piazza showcases the sculptures of Kan Yasuda, he was born in Bibai. The sculptures are scattered around a lawned and wooded area. If you've passed through Sapporo or Asahikawa train stations you'll have seen one of his sculptures. It's well worth a visit and it's free, but donations are welcome.
View on Googlefree of charge ! converted from a historic primary school in abandoned coal mining town the sculptures were stylish and the arrangements were thoughtful we were just unlucky that there is no sunshine to lift it all up the renovations to the gym shut out one piece of work and mars some photo angles
View on GoogleA great experience in a serene location. This is a slower, more peaceful art experience, not a gallery overflowing with artworks and people. If you've got a car in Hokkaido and you enjoy sculpture, this is worth a visit. We visited in autumn and had lovely weather and sunshine. Recent bear activity in the area meant some of the hillside and artworks inside weren't able to be seen, but the experience was enjoyable nonetheless. I wish I had worn gumboots or boots - my sneakers got quite wet from all the dew on the grass.
View on GoogleIt’s a pretty cool museum. Free entry. Cool pictures of when the emperor visited. There’s a bunch of signs warning of bears in the area. Nice stop if you’re on the way to/from Sapporo to break up the long drive.
View on GoogleArte Piazza Bibai in Winter Visit Arte Piazza Bibai this winter for a magical experience just 60 kilometers northeast of Sapporo. This outdoor sculpture park features stunning works by sculptor Kan Yasuda, set against a snowy landscape. Explore the 70,000 square meters of art and nature, including a renovated school and gymnasium hosting winter events. Enjoy cozy drinks at the café, and best of all, entrance is free. It’s the perfect spot to appreciate art in a winter wonderland!
