Well preserved place, where visitors may feel the atmosphere of Hokkaido in the 20th century, and get knowledge of local history of transportation (horse) and stays. Free entrance.

In eastern Hokkaido there are countless former railway facilities, but a building that was used as an inn and shop after serving as a railway facility is unusual. What's more, the lodging fee was equivalent to around 2万円 today, suggesting that it was a reasonably good inn at the time. A relay station, which you rarely see in other regions, is quite unusual. It is truly a valuable site that tells the story of the land-development era.

Visited during a touring trip around closed railway lines. You can learn about transportation, lodging, and the people who used them during the land-development era. I visit historical museums in various places, but this one is very well managed and maintained, so I recommend visiting. Don't forget to visit the nearby former railway station site too. As an aside… When I asked, 「Is it really okay for a museum this extensive to be free? You could charge admission」, they replied, 「We keep it free because we want many people to learn about the history of the land-development era」… I was deeply impressed… I'm quite embarrassed to have asked such a materialistic question😓 I hope even more people will come here.

A hundred-year-old station; it must have been a bustling station back in the day! Inside there are still very old telephones/safes.. and lots of old office supplies. A place you can visit to explore
