It really was 「かくれ・や」! Not just the exterior—opening the door revealed what looked exactly like a private home. Walking in, I felt like, have I come to an acquaintance’s house for a meal!? Once I was shown to a tatami room with a high ceiling, I finally felt relieved: “Good, this really is a restaurant!” (haha) The place highlights motsunabe and Korean food, but the usual dishes you would find at an izakaya were delicious too! The room is full of stylish Asian decorative items, and for a moment you forget where you are (haha).

Every dish was truly delicious and authentic, with generous portions. I also liked the atmosphere, which let me enjoy my meal in peace. I feel lucky to have found this little hideaway during my travels! The owner was kind too, and I would like to come all the way back to 厚沢部 to eat here again.

Many dishes here have slightly spicy seasoning. It cannot accommodate very large groups, but the food is delicious. It is run by a husband and wife, so food and drinks take longer to arrive when it is busy.

We had a delicious meal at this somewhat hidden izakaya! I highly recommend it!

True to its name, it feels like a private home and has a lovely atmosphere. The motsunabe was delicious.
