This fossil museum in Ashoro, Hokkaido, is an excellent destination for families, especially those with children who are interested in science and dinosaurs. The museum features fossils discovered in the Ashoro area, allowing visitors to learn about the region's prehistoric past and the fascinating creatures that once lived here. The exhibits are well presented and easy to understand, making them enjoyable for both children and adults. One of the best parts of the museum is its hands-on activities. Children can take part in fossil-related experiences and interactive exhibits, making learning both fun and memorable. It's a great way to spark curiosity about paleontology and natural history. Overall, this is a highly recommended stop for families traveling through eastern Hokkaido. With its impressive fossil collection, interactive activities, and educational exhibits, it's a perfect place for children to learn while having fun.
View on GoogleVisiting the Ashoro Museum of Paleontology was a fascinating experience for me and my family. As soon as we stepped inside, we were greeted by life-sized dinosaur skeletons that immediately captured our attention. The museum does an incredible job of making paleontology engaging and accessible, with exhibits that not only showcase fossils but also explain the history of life in Hokkaido. One of my favorite parts was the detailed displays of prehistoric animals found in the region. The interactive sections, where kids can touch replica fossils and even try a mini “excavation,” made it especially fun for my daughter. The staff were friendly and helpful, taking time to answer our questions and share interesting stories about the discoveries. The museum is compact yet very well-organized, so it’s easy to explore without feeling rushed. After walking through the exhibits, we also enjoyed the small outdoor area, which gives a glimpse of what the local environment might have looked like millions of years ago.
View on GoogleIt was a great museum. While the signs and displays about fossils were in Japanese, the staff provided two summary sheets in English when I bought my ticket. The museum featured an interesting history of fossil digging and had some really creative activities for kids.
View on Googlenice and interesting. but if you think you will find a dinosaur skeleton like the symbol shown on the benchmark, you are mistaken! There are only fish and skeletons, horses, penguins, hippos and shells. definitely not a dinosaur. I looked for it... but it wasn't there, the museum is very aesthetic. only the collection is not large. there's room to make molds of shells or artifacts.. it's enough to make you want to visit it just once
