Kintaro has fantastic okonomiyaki, gatatan (the local speciality), and a range of other family friendly dishes. Please check out Kintaro when you're in Ashibetsu next!
View on GoogleVisited on Thursday, April 16, Reiwa 8. That day I was making new-fiscal-year greeting rounds with one of our company's executives. Lunch was supposed to be at our usual michi-no-eki… but unexpectedly it was temporarily closed. So we made our first visit to Kintaro, which I'd been curious about. The curry is apparently popular too, but here we really wanted Ashibetsu's specialty, gatatan. So everyone ordered gatatan fried rice. There was more fried rice than it looked, and we were very satisfied. Next time I'll get the curry. Thanks for the meal.
View on GoogleStopped by on the way from Sapporo to Furano for sightseeing. I actually wanted to go to another place, but it was closed. I had a dish I'd never heard of called gatatan. A thick, ankake-like soup with various ingredients and noodles or rice, with a light flavor. Apparently it used to warm the bodies and fill the stomachs of people working in the coal mines, and it really felt like that kind of food. Personally, I think rice absorbs the flavor better than noodles and tastes better.
View on GoogleI had the gatatan ramen. In the colder season ahead, it really warms you up. Not so much while eating, but by the time I finished I was breaking out in a sweat. Gatatan has a lot of very healthy ingredients. The collab with ramen is nice too, but I felt it works better as a soup after all. It'd be nice if you could dip regular ramen noodles into the gatatan to switch up the flavor.
View on GoogleMy usual place was closed, so I came after reading reviews. Besides gatatan ramen, there are lots of dishes using gatatan. The portion was not large, about normal I'd say. It seems lots of celebrities come here too. I had the gatatan kake ramen: boiled noodles topped with gatatan! My daughter ordered the rice version! It felt a little salty, but it was tasty! They have curry, rice bowls, okonomiyaki, all sorts of things!
