Visited around 11:40. No other customers, had the place to myself. And no staff either! Looking closely, I spotted a staff member smoking in the kitchen. Ordered the 'chochin soba' I'd decided on beforehand. After a few minutes, here came the chochin… chochin? The rice had sesame salt and was tasty. The side dishes were cold. The shrimp tail had a bit of meat on it and was super crispy. But cold. The soba bowl… a big rice bowl? The taste is reliable and comforting. On my way out, I asked why it's called 'chochin.' Apparently the container used to be shaped like a chochin (lantern), but the bowl parts broke and not a single one is left. The chochin vessel is where the name comes from, and it's curious how the name remains even though the vessel is gone.
View on GoogleElderly staff handle everything, so when it's busy the food takes quite a while to come out. That said, the soba is very delicious. The curry soba. Recommended.
View on GoogleThe shop has no parking lot, but the supermarket across the street has a large one. I visited just after lunchtime and had tempura soba; they fried the tempura after I ordered, so it was piping hot and crispy. The noodles are thin, white sarashina soba.
View on GoogleA no-frills diner, for better or worse. It has a Showa feel and is a place locals feel at home in. It's a soba shop, but not a specialty one, so there's no guarantee of taste or craftsmanship. I think 'ordinary' is the right word.
View on GoogleI splurged a little and ordered the 1250円 zaru katsu-ju. Taste and portion, even a convenience store bento would be better••• I don't particularly think the customer is king, but the staff's attitude was so bad it made me feel even worse. I'll never go again.
