After playing plenty at 「木路歩来(ころぽっくる)」, I thought it might be time to head home. Before that, I briefly stopped at 「木と暮らしの情報館」 right next door to use the toilet. Free admission/Parking available/Multipurpose toilet available/Diaper changing possible/Running water available/No heating or air conditioning Open 9:00~17:00; closed in winter. Like 「木路歩来」, this is a facility of the forest products research institute. It seems to be a showcase displaying various products made from wood. Immediately to the right on entering is a long row of wooden craft products. The toilet is at the far end, and it was new, clean, and impressive. You can also change diapers in the multipurpose toilet. Incidentally, 「木路歩来」 has no caretaker, but staff were stationed here. With my mission accomplished, I walked back from the toilet, leisurely looking at the wooden crafts. Oh, this is stuff by 「三浦木地」, famous for wooden toys! (Stuff, lol.) Was it called 「どんぐりころころ」 or something? Various items are sold at 「ブラウンボックス」 in Arashiyama. As I headed back toward the entrance thinking, daughter, sorry to keep you waiting—there were excited, happy squeals. Looking over, I saw all sorts of toys! When I entered, I was in an emergency situation lol, so I hadn't really noticed, but there were various wooden toys that roll down, spin, or make sounds (musical instruments)! This looked fun. My daughter was engrossed in a fishing toy lol, catching and releasing whales. She's also really into musical toys lately, so she was delighted to play the xylophone. There was a rolling toy that played 「かえるのうた」 too, and it was a masterpiece! I liked it. Partly because it was unexpected (I'd only meant to use the toilet), it was so much fun! Who knew a facility like this was right next door? It offered a different kind of enjoyment from 「木路歩来」. Combining 「木路歩来」+「木と暮らしの情報館」 lets them complement each other and expands the ways to play. I recommend playing at both.
View on GoogleA wood information center. Wooden toys and other items are sold here. There are clean toilets. It feels more like somewhere to learn about wood processing than household fixtures, perhaps?
View on GoogleParking is convenient, it's very hot and stuffy indoors, and no admission ticket is needed.
View on GoogleIf you can play for free, that's enough.
