Best ramen we had in Asahikawa. Nice owners. Broth is very tasty and strong. Noodles are not too soft and full of flavor. Must-try. 1 photo halfway through and 1 photo when finished. Broth so good you will finish it.

View on GoogleThe red and yellow 梅光軒 in Asahikawa city. I thought I'd been to most of the branches, but for some reason this was my first visit to the 末広 branch. Parking is 3 spaces in front of the shop and a bit awkward to pull into. Watch out for the step on your first visit. Inside there's a counter and table seats. The decor has a 1960s America vibe, with photos of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean on display, and there was even an ornament like a miniature gas station from Route 66, which I visited recently. Looking at the menu, it doesn't seem much different from other 梅光軒 branches. There were two of us this time, so we ordered shoyu and shio, plus a small rice. After about 10 minutes, the ramen that came out looked like regular 梅光軒 ramen at first glance. But the toppings blew me away. This chain is famous for its thick menma, but here it's even a size thicker than at other branches? Yet soft and delicious. And the chashu blew me away. First, it's about as big as the diameter of the bowl. Some shops have big but thin-sliced chashu, but this one is thick too. It was chashu you sink your teeth into like a good piece of pork. And there were 2 of them. The soup is the light type, and the shio brings the flavor of the soup itself to the fore. The shoyu has no punch, but the dashi comes through, an old-fashioned kind of flavor. Then the small rice arrived late. Huh, something on top? Looking closer, it was soboro. With mayonnaise too. It was a soboro chashu bowl. But while eating I thought, isn't this someone else's order? Did the order of someone who asked for chashu men and a soboro mayo bowl end up here? Well, what's eaten is eaten, I'll mention it when I pay. I decided that and kept eating, but thanks to the chashu, I was seriously stuffed. I like putting rice on the renge spoon and dipping it in the soup, but this rice was the kind better eaten as is. Still, I wondered, does 梅光軒 really differ this much from shop to shop? Man, why had I never come to this branch until now? Next time I go to 梅光軒, it'll definitely be the 末広 branch. Well, actually the bowl says バイコウケンスエヒロ in katakana, so maybe the official name isn't in kanji.
View on GoogleI've been to the main shop several times, but this was my first time here; I had the large shoyu chashu men I had heard that 梅光軒 has different characteristics depending on the branch, and without a doubt the 末広 branch's flavor suited me better The chashu was thick and tender, the lumber-like menma was still there, and the soup, while gentle in flavor, had strong umami and was delicious The shop has a nostalgic American feel, and I enjoyed just looking around the place until the ramen was ready The service was polite and nice too, and I think I've found another shop I'll want to keep coming back to
