A museum specializing in sculpture, commemorating 中原悌二郎, a sculptor associated with 旭川 who left a major mark on the history of modern Japanese sculpture. Centered on the 12 works left by 中原悌二郎, its outstanding collection also includes artists who influenced him, such as ロダン and 荻原守衛, and winning works from the 中原悌二郎賞, established by 旭川市 in Showa 45 and regarded as the highest honor in Japanese sculpture. The collection provides an overview of the history of modern Japanese sculpture. The building used as the museum, “旧旭川偕行社,” has also been designated a national Important Cultural Property for its distinctive character as a fully realized Western-style clubhouse in Hokkaido and its excellent design.

Nice sculpture museum. It’s very small but affordable. Students are free and adults are Y300 (~$2.15). We spent about 30-40 min. Building is beautiful and exhibits are impressive. Asahikawa doesn’t have much in the way of tourist attractions outside of the zoo, but this one of the few. It’s worth going just for the building itself.

This is Teijiro Nakahara sculpture museum. This beautiful building was built as meeting room for army officer. Now many sculptures are exhibited in all floor.

Nice place to visit if you are in Asahikawa! It's a combination of science and fun, mostly for kids! Warning, lots of kids!!!! I really didn't expect the place to be this crowded and full of kids! I thought it's a museum only but it turns out that it's a fun type museum Japanese style I guess! If you like to explore Japanese ideas then this is a great place to visit. Not sure if there are any actual classes as the second floor looks like a school with classes for wood works and other interesting stuff!
