Stunning views from the summit. The continuous stairs require some stamina, and if you have a backpack it's recommended to leave it at the station or somewhere else first, otherwise you'll end up collapsed from exhaustion at the top like me (lol) But the air is very fresh, like a natural oxygen bar, and after coming down my steps actually felt lighter

Climbing it in one go is fairly tiring. The summit isn't very large, but you can see all of Akabira city, and it's a just-right mountain for exercise. The 777-step staircase has rest points along the way, so it's easy to climb.

Park in the lower parking lot and climb the stairs. The steps are numbered, so you can tell how many you've climbed. The view opens up from around step 400, and step 777 is the summit. Below is the town of Akabira, to the left is the Takikawa direction, straight ahead is Mt. Irumukeppu, and to the lower right you can see from the former mine shaft site toward Moshiri, evoking the prosperity of the former coal town. It took 12 minutes to reach the summit.

An observation deck that reuses a zuriyama (coal waste heap) at a former coal mine site in Akabira City. It's a superb viewpoint where you can see not only downtown Akabira but also mountains like the Tokachidake range and the Daisetsuzan range. Everyone, please come!!... is what I'd like to say, but it's not a spot I can recommend so casually. The reason is the way up to the observation deck. Or rather than the way, the stairs. As written on the guide sign, you have to conquer a whopping 777 steps. This is a bit of a mountain climb. Well, it actually is a mountain. A mountain that grew this huge from piled-up coal waste from the mine. Anyway, if you're taking it lightly, say as a way to fix your lack of exercise, there's a good chance you'll end up wrecked in body and mind. But as I said, the scenery after making the effort to climb is the best. Because of the difficulty, it may be hard to win repeat visitors, but if you're confident in your stamina, I'd like you to take on these stairs at least once. The nearby coal-sorting hopper is magnificent.

About 15 minutes to the summit, 777 steps. It was hot that day and I was drenched in sweat. There are lots of caterpillars, so be careful as you climb. There are benches to rest at several spots. At the summit there's a bell of something-or-other and a telescope, and you can take in the whole view.
