It's a refreshing forest road that even a passenger car can drive along, but it's fairly deep in the mountains, giving it a remote feel and just the right sense of adventure. I went hoping to enjoy panoramic views of Lake Notoro and Lake Abashiri from the observation deck, but unfortunately the trees had grown, so I could only admire the scenery through gaps.

It's 10km along a forest road from the nearest public road. I entered from Ubaranai, but at first I couldn't find the entrance and was confused about where I could get into the forest. Even searching online turned up almost no information. Feeling uneasy, I followed the road along the Ubaranai River and found the entrance to the forest road. You drive along a completely unpaved gravel road, but somehow it feels like being on an amusement park ride, haha. There are forks along the way, but both the red and blue routes lead to しらかば十字園. As of summer 2018, the section of the red route toward Tanno apparently was closed. There was absolutely nobody at the observation deck, and it was quiet. Lake Abashiri and Lake Notoro were clearly visible.

About 20 minutes by car along a mountain road, I think. The road is bad. The view from the observation deck isn't very good either. I don't recommend it.
