Beautiful museum
View on GoogleA municipal art museum in central 網走. It opened in 1972 (Showa 47) and reportedly has the 2nd-longest history among newly established art museums in 北海道. On the day I visited, the special exhibition featured paper-collage works by 藤倉英幸, while the permanent exhibition showed works by local painters such as 松樹路人 and 居串佳一. 藤倉's paper collages have a very bright style, beautifully depicting scenery from across 北海道 and giving an approachable impression. Meanwhile, the works by 松樹 and 居串 overflow with the artists' intense emotions, and I felt a captivating quality that seemed to draw me in. The exhibition area is not large, and the building and other facilities feel somewhat old, but I was satisfied to be able to appreciate the works at leisure in a quiet setting.
View on GoogleThe first and second exhibition rooms are for special exhibitions, while the third and fourth house the permanent exhibition (photography is prohibited here). The museum opened after the family of the late painter 居串佳一 donated a substantial number of works. It is a public art museum with a long history within 北海道. Since it is near the cultural hall on the edge of the town center, it may be somewhat difficult to reach for travelers arriving by JR. There are also groups of works based on his stay in 満州 and on the Ainu. I hope people will learn about the artistic career of a man who, from the early Showa era through the war years, dreamed of studying in Paris but died away from home.

View on GoogleI went to the エヴァンゲリオン フィギュアワールド exhibition. I've never watched it, so I didn't really understand it, but my child enjoyed it. There were expensive figures and such, but I wished there were lots more merchandise that was more affordable to buy.
