Museum Ullen Sentalu was one of the most memorable museum visits I’ve had. The collections and paintings really stood out, and I especially enjoyed seeing the musical instruments. The guided experience made it feel more personal and easy to follow, which added a lot to the visit. I’d happily recommend it to anyone interested in art and history.
View on GoogleI’ve visited Museum Ullen Sentalu twice, and honestly, it’s one of the most memorable museums I’ve ever been to. On my first visit, I took the Adiluhung Mataram Tour (Rp50,000), which focuses on the history of the Mataram Dynasty. The tour includes a guide who explains everything in great detail, so it feels very immersive, not just walking around and looking at exhibits. Photography is not allowed during the tour, which actually helps you stay present and fully absorb the stories. On my second visit, I joined the Vorstenlanden Tour (Rp100,000). This one focuses more on the Dutch colonial era in Java. Toward the end, we were taken to Esther Huis, an Indische-style house featuring batik collections and antique ornaments that reflect a blend of Javanese, Dutch, and Chinese cultures. The final part was a Dutch-style tea ceremony, where I was served hot tea and cookies. I highly recommend this museum, especially for those interested in history and Javanese culture. It’s quite a rare and enriching experience, even for locals.
View on GoogleA must-visit spot when you are in Jogja! Museum Ullen Sentalu is super quiet, aesthetic, and a wonderful place to wind down. The 45-minute guided tour gives an incredibly detailed look into the history of Jogja and Central Java's royalty, explaining everything from what the kings wore and symbol meanings to the stories behind specific statues and accessories before ending it all in a beautifuly curated connected story. Our tour guide was fantastic: playful, fun, and kept us laughing with jokes throughout the walkthrough. Visiting on a weekday afternoon meant no heavy crowds, which made the experience even better. They also serve delicious tea and cookies at the end of the tour! *NOTE: photography isn't allowed near the artwork inside, but you can take pictures of the beautiful surrounding areas outside. Highly recommended!
View on GoogleHave always wanted to come here but it didn’t live up to my expectation, I thought I was going to see sceneries and sculptures but most of the things I saw was paintings and history lesson. FYI I took the vorstenlanden tour which costed IDR 100k/person, the tour lasted for an hour, with a tour guide explaining what each pieces, rooms, and paintings meant. This is in no way an attack to the owner or the guides, I guess this museum is just not my cup of tea. At least I got an actual cup of tea and some biscuits at the end of the tour.
View on GoogleGreat experience. Must visit if you to Yogyakarta. Love the experience. I didn't know that I could enjoy the meseum and art this much. Will come back here again to take another tour. Was guided by Tina, explained the whole history and its art really2 good & intresting. Better than most of history teacher. If you're here by taxi or grab, make sure you make the driver wait for you! No online taxi will pick you up up here. 5/5. Should make more or this. So we don't forget about our roots & has a clear perspective of this nation
