The excellence of the food fortunately out weighed the very poor service. Watching staff twiddle their thumbs until we went up to order. We thought it was order from counter style... the baracuda grilled fish is highly recommended.
View on GoogleStepping into this establishment is less like visiting a restaurant and more like embarking on a culinary journey through the royal kitchens of the Yogyakarta Sultanate. The experience is defined by dishes that are steeped in history but executed with a modern, sophisticated touch, focusing heavily on balance—a hallmark of true Javanese gastronomy. The Sultan’s Comfort: Lombok Kethok (Beef Stew) The centerpiece of this meal was the Lombok Kethok (literally, "Cut Chili"), a hearty beef stew that perfectly encapsulates the blend of richness and subtle heat preferred in this region. Many stews can be heavy-handed, but this dish was a masterclass in nuance. The beef, long stewed in rich coconut milk and abundant palm sugar, was meltingly tender, absorbing the deep, caramelly sweetness. What makes the Lombok Kethok unique is the preparation of the chili. Instead of raw heat, the chilies are likely fried or slow-cooked, which mutes the aggressive spiciness while imparting a warm, lingering aroma. This transformation creates a delightful, slow-burn warmth that complements the profound sweetness, rather than opposing it. Crucially, the dish was served alongside highly fragrant Jasmine Rice. The clean, floral scent and light texture of the rice provided the necessary counterpoint to the stew’s richness, allowing the complex flavors of the coconut milk and palm sugar to shine without becoming cloying. It was a perfectly executed main course: deep, comforting, and surprisingly elegant. An Elixir for the Palate: The Kajimatan Tea Often, drinks are an afterthought, but the signature Kajimatan proved to be a star in its own right. Described as "another level of tea with herbs and spices," this beverage transcended a simple infusion. The Kajimatan is clearly a thoughtful blend, likely incorporating traditional Javanese elements like ginger, lemongrass, or perhaps cinnamon and star anise. It was aromatic, subtly warming, and helped to cleanse the palate after the richness of the beef stew. This is not merely a drink; it is an atmospheric element that adds depth and authenticity to the overall dining experience—a true heirloom recipe delivered perfectly. The Elegant Conclusion: Grilled Banana with Coconut Cream The meal was closed with a dessert that managed to be simultaneously comforting and highly refined: the Grilled Banana with Thick Coconut Milk. The preparation was genius. The banana was only half-grilled, leaving the interior soft and moist while developing a beautiful, smoky caramelization on the surface. This gentle grilling imparted an elegant, almost smoky fragrance that elevated the fruit beyond typical fried preparations. The highlight, however, was the coconut accompaniment. The thick coconut milk was used not merely as a drizzle, but as a rich, velvety jam or filling, spread generously in between the cuts of the banana. This rich, creamy center provided a sublime textural contrast to the soft fruit and the crisp grilled edges. It was a wonderfully balanced dessert—creamy, fragrant, and the perfect note of sophisticated sweetness to complete the Sultan’s feast.

View on GoogleThe place is nice, cozy, and kid friendly (playground is available). The restaurant wasn't crowded too, so you'd feel comfortable spending a couple of hours there. The food tasted just nice, only my beverage felt a little bland even when i didnt ask for less sugar. Overall, it's 4.5/5.
