I am not always a big fan of modern art and can sometimes be a bit hesitant about it, but I absolutely loved my visit to the Jogja National Museum! We spent a good 2.5 hours exploring, and it was a really lovely experience. The entrance fee is very affordable. One of my favorite parts was the interactive side: we got to make our own postcards and even left with some really cute little posters. It made the visit feel very special and fun! We were there during a beautiful temporary exhibition called ARTJOG. The displays were stunning, particularly the fascinating installations by Roby Dwi Antono that featured wombs and explored themes of generation and identity. Overall, it’s a fantastic museum with thoughtful, engaging art. I highly recommend checking it out, even if modern art isn't usually your go-to!

went here for ARTJOG and had such a great experience. it’s so cool that the space has three floors filled with art pieces in different forms and dimensions. every piece was amazing, and there were guides throughout who were helpful to explain the concepts behind the artworks. some installations were interactive too, which made the experience more fun. they also have a wide variety of merchandise, which makes for great souvenirs. once you’re done with area, you can head straight to the compound area (JNM bloc) outside to eat or shop. when i visited, there was a bazaar going on. the only downside is that there’s no elevator, so with three floors, it’s not accessible for everyone. it also gets quite hot inside, which can make it a little difficult to fully enjoy the artworks, especially if you’re spending a long time exploring.

I visited JNM on the 10th of July. Annually, JNM holds a grand exhibition: ArtJog. The theme for this year's ArtJog is the first part of the Ars Longa trilogy. I personally enjoyed the exhibition as it is. However, the existence of various agenda throughout the exhibition period is another attraction that keeps ArtJog exciting. I want to appreciate the staff and volunteers whose work are often dismissed by others. Good job, Team! 🤍

No idea why it's called a national museum. There is nothing here except shops and cafes and a handful statues in open air. Visited on 29 December 2025.
