this museum is actually the 2nd unit of the Fort Vredeburg Museum, which empashizes the role of Yogyakarta for the Indonesian independence. the collection is few compared to other museums. but there is a 10-15 minutes of animation about the history of Indonesian independence in a nutshell. for the building, it was originally built as a monument to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the start of the National Awakening (1908-1958). i think it was concepted like a candi (Hindu-Buddhist temple) or a pagoda? there are reliefs about the history of Indonesian independence along with the face statue of some Indonesian heroes. this museum also provides stamp for your travel journey/passport not many people visit this museum (afaik), because when i & my fiancé were there, we were the only visitor of this museum toilet, parking spot, mosque, open parks, bus stop ✅
View on GoogleMust do stop if you are in the city and if you are interested in the history of 20th century Indonesia and their independence movement. The staff is great and super kind and knowledgeable. There is an immersive movie projection room and the museum room. Keep in mind the museum is closed on Mondays.
View on GoogleWe had a great time at the museum. The video was informative and Putri was a fantastic tour guide around the basement exhibit and around the outside of the building.
View on GoogleEven though the place is somewhat small, it's pretty cool, clean and well maintained, it's just that it's a little too empty sometimes. Needs some improvement like interactive panels or stuff, so young people don't get bored But its already nice. 8/10 would come back again.
View on GoogleA small museum consisting of a very unique building with its interesting architecture housing a significant part of local history. The exterior of the building is decorated with beautiful sculptures and images. Ticketing is simply purchased on the spot from an ibu where she will give you a notebook to jot down your details- foreigners 25k. There is hardly any visitors when we came in the afternoon and had the whole place to ourselves :) The exhibit is nicely presented in an air conditioned space. The artifacts, photos and sculptures are quite interesting where they capture the revolution era of the region. But the signage accompanying them could do with more information and thought as some cards seem to just repeat the same information over and over again. Would be great if it was abit more immersive. Overall, still worth visiting.
