I had a wonderful dining experience at Bale Raos. The food was surprisingly affordable, especially considering that you get to taste authentic royal dishes that were once served to the Sultan and the Yogyakarta royal family. It felt like more than just a meal, it was a chance to experience a part of Javanese history and culture. The restaurant has a beautiful traditional atmosphere next to the Royal Palace, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The menu also includes English descriptions, which made it easy to understand the history behind each dish. If you're visiting Yogyakarta, I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to enjoy authentic royal cuisine at a reasonable price. Definitely worth a visit!
View on GoogleYeah it was pretty nice. The foods here are one of a kind and you rarely can find similar thing outside this place. The vibe here is like eating at a huge traditional Javanese castle with all the vibes and music. The foods was exquisitely presented in plate and the taste was based on sultan's personal liking. I would recommend this place to immerse on the experience.

It's peaceful, welcoming, and full of cultural character. Considering the quality of the food and the unique cultural experience, the prices are very reasonable. View on GoogleDined at Bale Raos and overall it was a really enjoyable experience, especially if you are curious about traditional Javanese flavors. I ordered two appetizers and two main courses. For the starters, I really liked the salad and the egg dish, both were flavorful and a great way to begin the meal. For the main course, I tried the beef, and this was probably the only part that did not quite match my preference. The texture was a bit tough, possibly due to the cut or quality of the meat. That said, considering the price is quite affordable, it is still understandable. On the other hand, the drinks were a highlight. The secang was especially good, refreshing and full of flavor, and it complemented the meal really well. Overall, despite the small note on the beef, everything else from the appetizers to the drinks and the overall experience made it worth visiting. A great place to try something a bit different in Yogyakarta.
View on GoogleI came across a place in a museum complex that serves classic Javanese dishes. I gave it a try, but the flavors didn't quite suit my palate—most of the food leaned toward the sweeter side. Overall, the presentation was nice, but it just wasn’t to my taste. The place is hot, is better if is air conditioned.
