This place is truly a local gem, specializing in seafood with a wide variety of flavors. The chefs are all young, and you can see the "wok hei" (breath of the wok) flying under the high heat—it’s a very lively atmosphere. 🥘 🥳 The signature dishes are illustrated on the shop’s sign, and surprisingly, the first one is a stir-fried vegetable dish. At first, I was puzzled—shouldn't the star be the 🐟 fresh seafood? Why a plain-looking vegetable? 🤔 However, once I started eating, I realized the veggies are essential. Whether it’s salted egg yolk, sweet and sour, or deep-fried, the dishes here are quite heavy and rich. By the end, I couldn't tell if I was full from the food or just overwhelmed by the richness. 😅 🥗 🦑Salted Egg Yolk Squid🐙 Unlike the calamari style in Singapore, the squid here aren't large rings but baby squids. Each tiny squid is coated in salted egg yolk sauce and fried until it's incredibly fragrant—it's mind-blowing! 🤣 🦑 🦐Crispy Fried Prawns^🦐 These are small prawns coated in a thick starch and deep-fried to a golden brown, making them more like a snack to pair with beer. If you find the sweet flavors too cloying, you can try this version without extra seasonings.🥳 🦐 🐠Boneless Milk Sweet and Sour Fish🐟 This must be a favorite for kids. The fish is tender and smooth, drizzled with sweet and sour sauce. It feels like humanity’s first experience of deliciousness after coming from the ocean to the land.🤩 🤣 🦪Boiled Blood Cockles🦪 This is a lighter dish where you can taste the original flavor of the ingredients. However, most of the cockles were tightly shut, making them a bit troublesome to eat; they might have been dead for a while.😅 🐚 🥤Fresh Avocado Juice🥑 Almost a mandatory order. The avocado juice here isn't diluted with ice and is very rich. Although it’s not the best for quenching thirst or cutting through greasiness, it wins on texture and flavor. Once you’ve experienced the "capitalist" avocado blends and price markups in Singapore, you’ll find yourself ordering fresh juice here without a second thought.🤣🤣🤣 🥑 As other diners have said, you can order blindly here without worrying about hitting a "landmine." After all, when seafood is drenched in various sweet, sour, and salty sauces, how could it possibly taste bad!🤣 🦀 There are indeed many locals eating here, and they all love adding a bowl of steamed rice 🍚. For a carnivore like me, I treat the fish 🐟 as my staple food. When you finally have the chance to go wild on seafood, why waste stomach space on rice instead of ordering more varieties? 😆😆😆 🌊
View on GoogleThe dining experience here was so good that we went back for a second night. Our favourite dish on the first visit was the Clams in Butter Sauce, while on the second night it was the Milkfish in Butter Sauce. Both were absolutely delicious. The Squid in Egg Yolk Sauce wasn’t a bad dish, but we found it a little too rich for our taste. We’ve discovered that egg yolk sauce is generally richer than we enjoy, so we’ll probably avoid ordering it in the future. The service was outstanding. We especially loved the warm welcome from the busy kitchen staff, who enthusiastically greeted every guest as they entered the restaurant. Don’t miss the rooftop dining area either. If we had stayed in Yogyakarta a little longer, we would definitely have returned again.
View on GoogleZona Seafood in Jogja is the best seafood I’ve had so far in Indonesia. Food quality is top tier - super yummy, tasty, and the price is cheap for what you get. I ordered online via GrabFood and it arrived still hot, packaged very clean, and I was really satisfied. They really make the food exactly like what’s described on the menu. Service is really good and you can tell they care about customers. Highly recommend Zona Seafood, not just for dine-in, but definitely for online order too if you’re too lazy to go out.
View on GoogleWe went here twice in the 3 days we stayed in Yogyakarta because it was so good!! Food is delicious, made with love and super reasonable prices!! Can’t recommend it more highly - calamari with pandangese sauce and Ikan bakar were great in particular as well as the lychee iced tea.
View on GoogleVery popular. Didnt make reservation, so sit @ hotter & smoky area near kitchen instead of breezy root top. Mostly same fried food, only finished with different sauce. Not pricy & taste acceptable.
