The restaurant is only open until 5 p.m. I originally came here to have the beef empal soup, but it was already sold out, so I ordered beef intestines instead. To my surprise, it was incredibly delicious — especially when dipped in the fragrant and spicy fresh chili sauce! If you plan to come here, don’t come too late because the food sells out quickly due to its popularity.

The empal meat is fatty yet tender and juicy, and easy to chew. The fried lung has a certain crunchy feel. Careful for a sensitive stomach, as the chili paste is spicy yet makes you crave for more.

This place has been dishing out amazing sego empal (beef stew with rice) since 1970, and I checked out their branch in Kotabaru. Their menu is packed with sego empal goodness – from the regular sego empal to special variations like sego empal lidah, sego empal babat, and more. Each plate comes with flavorful sides like sambal, lalapan, and kerupuk. I went for the sego empal sambal lalapan and sayur sop, and let me tell you, it was a heavenly combo. The beef was tender and bursting with flavor, and that sambal ? Spicy perfection. I even met someone who just wanted to buy the sambal korek alone. The lalapan and kerupuk were super fresh and delicious too. The food was a delight, service was top-notch, and prices were totally reasonable. Trust me, this spot is a must-try !
