The prices are quite reasonable, matching the flavor and portion size; the meat is tender and the seasoning penetrates deeply. The portions are generous, though there is a dilemma: ordering a large amount at once—given the long queues—might result in having too much, yet ordering in smaller batches means a very long wait. If you are hungry, it is better to grab a snack nearby; there are *cucur* (palm sugar fritters) fried fresh on the spot and *serabi Notosuman* or take some coffee around
View on GoogleI came here thinking this was the same amazing lamb satay place I visited on my last trip to Jogja, but I was completely mistaken, I wish I remembered the old restaurant name. I ordered one portion of Sate Klathak (lamb) and a bowl of Lamb Gulai. Sate Klathak had quite large portions of meat on each skewer, but the flavor and texture were disappointing. The meat was far too salty, to the point where I had to drench it in the sauce just to mask the saltiness. Also, the meat was very inconsistent, most of the pieces were tough, with only a few being tender. Lamb Gulai, It is a savory soup with a mild, aromatic herb flavor. It isn't as thick or rich as a Padang-style gulai, but the lamb meat in the soup was surprisingly much more tender than the meat in the satay. The service, however, was incredibly slow. Even though the restaurant was less than half full, it took more than 10 minutes just to get an empty plate after asking for it. On a positive note, the prices are quite cheap, but given the tough satay and poor service, it was a letdown compared to my previous memories of tender Jogja sate klathak
View on GoogleOne of the most famous spots for sate klathak in Jogja! If you’re in the area, Sate Klathak Pak Pong is definitely a place many people recommend. For those who aren’t familiar, sate klathak is a traditional Yogyakarta-style satay made from chunks of goat meat that are simply seasoned with salt and grilled on iron skewers. The iron skewers help conduct heat evenly, which gives the meat that juicy, slightly smoky flavor. The meat here is tender, flavorful, and pairs perfectly with the warm curry-like soup that usually comes with it. Simple seasoning, but when done right like this, it really hits the spot. BUT… one thing you need to prepare yourself for: patience. The food here takes a looooong time to arrive. And I’m not exaggerating. I’ve been coming here for years, and somehow the waiting time is still the same every single visit 😭 So here’s my survival tip: eat some snacks before coming here. Seriously. Don’t arrive when you’re starving unless you’re ready to wait. Overall, still worth trying for the experience and the iconic Jogja dish — just make sure you bring your patience along with your appetite 🍢✨
View on GoogleThe satay klathak at Pak Phong was genuinely delicious. The meat was tender, well-grilled, and had a simple but distinctive seasoning that brought out the natural flavor of the lamb. The smoky aroma from the grill made it even better, and the taste felt authentic without being overly salty or heavy. Overall, it was a satisfying experience and definitely worth trying, especially for anyone who wants to enjoy one of Yogyakarta’s most iconic dishes.
