I was waiting at guesthouse "Marbun", when the hostess of this guesthouse saw me across the street and told me Marbun guesthouse was closed. There was nobody at the reception indeed. So, she walked me to her guesthouse and asked initially for 300k/night which was lowered to 250k. I accepted the new rate not knowing then that the rate at Marbun guesthouse was 180k/night only. What the hostess did was dishonest to both her neighbour and me. So, Sarapan guesthouse. "Sarapan" means breakfast and for 250k/night breakfast wasn't included. For that price, they don't even give you the usual 2 bottles of water. The guesthouse is very clean, my room was spacious. Spring queen size bed. No desk or table. The sink is outside the bathroom. Lights in the room are dim. The room is not sound proof. Despite being the only guest, I barely slept at night because I could hear everything: the motorbikes on the road, roosters and hens behind the room, someone working in the kitchen downstairs until 2am, the water pump going on and off all night long. This guesthouse looks nice but is not comfortable. The hostess didn't give me any tourist information on the island but reminded me twice to rent her motorbike, which I didn't because I'd have rather rented it from someone else. Someone honest. I do not recommend this guesthouse.

Situated nearby the harbour and within walking distance to the main area (think restaurants, shops, and even an art gallery), the location is ideal - especially as it’s also close to the waterfall (around a 1-1.5+ hour walk from the accommodation to the peak). The rooms are spacious and clean, particularly the toilet, and the balcony faces the aforementioned waterfall. As it’s a family run guesthouse, expect to be greeted and treated like family which really makes the entire experience even better. The food served is mostly fresh from the garden and vegan friendly which I really appreciated. Overall, 10/10 recommend!!!

While we stayed there we were the only guests. The family there is nice and helpful. We said we wanted to try cocoa fruit and the lady got us some from the neighbour. ||The room was mainly clean and the hot water worked. And the size of the room is decent with a nice veranda. ||We would come back!

We met Erik the son of the owner while doing a tour with him as guide. And he told us he is also a cook. He is a great guy with a lot of knowledge of the Batak tradition. So we went eating in his place. And it was great. He cooked the small river lobsters and saté. And we had really a very good meal. So please enjoy it just as we did and give this restaurant a visit.
