Authentic, organic, and locally sourced ingredients are prepared with the best possible hosts! Kiki and his mother, Hedy have been sharing their culinary knowledge for over 15 years with visitors to Lake Toba. We chose 3 delicious dishes: vegetarian, fish, and chicken recipes that we made together. The teacher was friendly and an excellent English speaker and when everything was ready we enjoyed the meal on the cozy veranda. We can DEFINITELY recommend this, our no.1 experience in Lake Toba! Don’t forget to take home some of their incredible spices!
View on GoogleEven though i was alone, i was warmly welcomed for a cooking class. Kiki introduced me into (for me) new spices and authentic indonesian kitchen. The class was well prepared and the ingredients fresh. Kiki guided me through everything, letting me enjoy the full hands-on experience. The food tasted absolutly amazing and there was even enough to have a second portion for takeaway. I highly recommend the cooking class! Also I got the eat the freshest passionfruit i've ever had, straight from the tree in the backyard :) PS: vegetarian/vegan options are available too
View on GoogleThe best traditional food on Samosir! The flavours, taste, ingredients…everything is just wow!
View on GoogleWe visited in September 2024 and had a lovely meal. We then booked a tour of the island for the following day. It was a really enjoyable tour; Kiki took us everywhere and explained a lot about farming and the importance of adopting best agricultural practices, particularly in terms of hygiene. We visited the Batak museum, went to the market, had lunch at a lovely spot… We even chatted with some women who were weaving traditional rugs by the side of the road. We got back late because a road closure meant we had to drive round the island in the opposite direction. We were also able to buy lots of local products in the shop, such as honey, coffee and spices. A wonderful memory!!
View on GoogleContrary to the reviews, I went with expectancy to learn Batak cooking but was under pressure to take notes, while attempting to catch up with instructor at speed pace. Thankfully, coming from SEA country and seasoned cook, the spices used are not foreign. I couldn't imagine those without prior knowledge would be able to identify and catch up. Please note no notes are provided even tho she said she would provide. After the class, she didn't even watsapp the notes/recipes. Saving grace, you get to pack the food that you learnt and cooked. This class is at best masterclass, and for seasoned cook only preferably from SEA, where u watch with very keen eyes.
