We are a family run business situated in the heart of Tuktuk on the edge of Lake Toba. Our vegetarian and vegan restaurant is situated on the main road of Tuktuk, not far from Roy's pub. We have flavours from India the Mediterranean and lots of local delights.

This lovely restaurant has a large menu of vegetarian and vegan foods. Lots standard veggie options, a small selection of Indian options and many Indonesian classics. The Vegan Rendang and Bakso with Noodles are amazing. Very fortunate to find a vegetarian restaurant so close to my hotel.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the only vegetarian restaurant on the remote island of Samosir. The location is excellent — right by the lake with a beautiful and peaceful view. The service was very good, and the staff were extremely accommodating. I don’t eat onions or garlic, and they were happy to adjust the dishes according to my dietary needs. The prices are very reasonable as well. There are many hotels near the restaurant. Since there are no taxis or Grab services on the island, I highly recommend staying near this vegetarian restaurant for convenience. A great find for vegetarians visiting Samosir Island — highly recommended!

We’ve been here twice since we’ve been at Lake Toba and both times the food has been excellent, despite some challenges we know they were having with staffing. Some of the best food we’ve had in Indonesia so far. Great array of games to play before and after dinner as well. We were there the same night as the one star review below, and we found the experience excellent.

Wonderful vegetarian restaurant in the heart of Tuktuk on Samosir Island! We had been eyeing up Horas all week, and finally visited on our penultimate evening. We were not disappointed! Ordered the vegan rendang, which is a house speciality, and rice. The rendang is made from a mock meat which is mushroom and soya based, and really delicious! Huge range of options which are all tasty. A little pricier than other places around, but that is likely the result of the specific focus of this restaurant. Lovely service, good portions, and tasty food. Highly recommend!

In our few days on Samosir, we ate at Horas for lunch twice. We originally came for the food (freshly prepared, amazing vegetarian options and delicious passion fruit juice that they hand make), but we came back again for the conversation, too. We really enjoyed having long, lingering lunches w/ good food, beautiful views, peaceful atmosphere, and great conversations w/ the owners. We also appreciated it being one of the few restaurants that had a gallon jug of water and didn’t force purchase of single use plastic bottles. And besides the owners, the staff person assisting was super friendly. Really calming place that enhanced our memories in Toba. Thank you Horas!!
