I thoroughly enjoy my visits to this monument. The lady that takes care of the site is very friendly and genuinely appears to enjoy telling the story of Meriam Puntung. It is really great this monument is open to the public as a physical element to accompany the story of Putri Hijau, and you're able to get up close to the cannon. You are even allowed to put your ear to the cannon to hear the sound it made - you'll have to listen to the story to get it. It is well maintained and clean. The entry fee is extremely low to enjoy such an historic artefact. You won't need to purchase tickets in advance, and I'm not sure that it is something you can do anyway. You will be asked to remove your shoes which is no big deal. The site is easy to get to with local food and drink vendors on site. It's also great that this monument is right next door to Istana Maimun, making it well worth visiting both in one visit.

Just beside istana, covering, can't see clearly, parking available, many food seller, easier to get public transport

What a shame, fellow visitors. Though its grand facade gleams like a jewel in the sun, the old beauty is sorely neglected-those side wings are blocked, mid-renovation.

It’s one of the historical landmarks in Medan city. The entrance fee is only IDR 10,000. Prior to entering the museum, we’re required to take off our shoes but not required to wear socks. Maybe thats why it’s a bit smelly in the middle of the room where the carpet was laid off. Furthermore, some rooms are being used by the local sellers to showcase their products in the palace. I think it’d be much better if the government conserves the palace by keeping it clean from the sellers.

This hut is located outside in the courtyard of Istana Maimoon. Entry to this hut IDR5000/pax (cash only) you'll be asked to remove your shoes as it houses a sacred cannon from the 11th century. There will be a lady who will explain to you the brief legend behind this historical relic. Unfortunately she only speaks bahasa. However, there's a sign in English just outside the hut.
