A Japanese chef cooks the food. The atmosphere, food, and tableware are all very nice. The abalone and uni were especially delicious
View on GoogleFood is great, I think it is not exaggerating to say that Kayu is one of the very best japanese restaurant in Surabaya. I like the chicken miso yaki, the salmon head is also great, chicken teriyaki is also properly grilled (in most places here in surabaya, they fry the chicken instead kf grilling it) , my wife ordered salmon yuke don and it was good too. Atmosphere is great, top notch, very artistic and very "customize" , living up its name " kayu contemporary japanese restaurant " , but only one thing is the preparation time, they took nearly 40 mins ++ to prep all of the food, service is rather slow, I think we waited nearly 20-30 mins or so just to get served our cold ocha
View on GoogleExtremely tasty and fresh Sushi with ridiculously large portions. Literally 1 roll per evening paired with a large Bintang would be all I needed any given night (granted I eat light in the evenings generally). Visited 5 times in 2 weeks of a stay in Surabaya. I only ever sat in the Smoking area, but the ambience was very tastefully done and aesthetically appealing. Excellent, warm and friendly service.
View on GoogleOne of the best authentic Jap resto that serves fresh raw menu. Try their : - Carpaccio (any fresh fish of the day, like Maguro Carpaccio 👍) - Chirashi Sushi - Kai Bento (well all bento are gewd but Kai is special) - Shima Aji Tataki Most of their raws are very recommended❤️ For those can not eat raw : - Bifuteki Don - Wafu Hamburg I don’t recommend ramen/ udon in this kind of restaurant, peeps. Buy ramen/ udon at ramen n udon special restaurants (like you order Soto at Soto specialist). I read a lot of bad reviews just bcoz they ordered ramen. AND, order Japanese authentic Sushi, please! Not those American fusion styled sushi (with mayo and fried stuffs🙃).
View on GoogleNormally, we always go for dine in, as the place is comfortable to dine in But this time we ordered it for take away for our small gathering event at the office... The packaging and everything were fine, but maybe it was not a good decision to take away.. The tastes change, too. It feels not a good pricing compare too if we went to dine in Not for the next time .. we will just go there to dine
