It's worth a try if you're in Surabaya. It's located in front of Surabaya Square. The ice cream is truly unique, homemade, and the flavors are unlike any other. The place is old-school. But it's unique and interesting. Parking is a bit of a gamble, but if you can't find one, you can park across the street. The most phenomenal and worth a try is Tutti Fruity. The price is a bit steep, but it's worth it considering the taste, location, and atmosphere.
View on GoogleZangrandi Surabaya is a legendary ice cream place with a strong old-school feeling. The ice cream has a classic taste, simple but enjoyable, and it reminds you of an old Surabaya dessert shop. They offer many ice cream variations, from scoops, cups, sliced ice cream, chocolate, raisin, mocha, cassata, and other classic flavors. The place has both AC and non-AC seating areas. The indoor AC area feels more comfortable for relaxing, while the non-AC area has a vintage open-air atmosphere with old-style chairs and a nostalgic café look. The interior is not very modern, but that is part of its charm. The service is friendly and helpful. Staff are polite, quick to clean the tables, and make the visit feel pleasant. Overall, Zangrandi is worth visiting for its history, classic ice cream, and unique Surabaya atmosphere.

View on GoogleMy first impression of Zangrandi was pretty much what I expected. Since it is located right by the roadside and the parking area is quite limited, I had to park a little far away and walk around 40 meters to get there, especially because it was quite crowded at the time. Still, once we got inside, the place felt spacious enough. I came with my family of six, and we were able to get seats right away. I think it is still a comfortable place even for bigger groups. The service was also good. The waiters and waitresses were friendly, and each of us was given free water, which was honestly a nice touch considering most of the desserts here are on the sweeter side. For the ice cream, I personally ordered the vanilla cone. The vanilla flavor was much more noticeable compared to regular vanilla ice cream, which I liked, although for me personally the sweetness was slightly too much, even as someone who enjoys sweet food. I also tried their signature Tutti Frutti Vanilla, which felt more balanced. It had a creamy topping and small fruit pieces inside, so the sweetness did not feel overwhelming. The biggest surprise for me was the chocolate ice cream. My younger sibling ordered the Rocky Canyon, and when I tried it, I was honestly impressed. The chocolate flavor was strong and tasted like real chocolate, not artificial at all. Usually, when chocolate ice cream tastes this authentic, there is a slight bitterness to it, but here it was balanced really well. It was rich, sweet, and satisfying without being bitter or too heavy. I usually prefer vanilla over chocolate, but this one actually changed my mind. It was easily my favorite. The texture of Zangrandi’s ice cream is slightly icy and a little watery, so it is not the super dense and ultra-creamy type. For the price, I think it is still fair. The cone was around 30k, which felt reasonable, and the Rocky Canyon at around 50k was definitely worth it for the strong chocolate flavor and balanced sweetness. Overall, Zangrandi has that classic old-school ice cream parlor vibe. It feels nostalgic, comfortable, and great for hanging out and chatting. I would definitely recommend it for sweet tooths, families, or anyone looking for a nice dessert stop after spending the day exploring Surabaya.
